Book Report
Artemis Fowl is a young-adult fantasy novel written by Eoin Colfer. It is the first book in the Artemis Fowl series, followed by Artemis Fowl: The Arctic Incident. This book has 280 pages including the prologue and epilogue and the theme of this book is illusion of power. The story takes place in the dawn of the 21st century. The locations the book goes to are Ho Chi Minh City, where Artemis meets his informant, and Dublin, Ireland where the Fowl Manor is. The Protagonist of the story is Artemis Fowl and his butler Butler. The antagonist of the story are the LEPrecon fairies. The conflict is man versus man. The book begins when Artemis Fowl meets Nguyen (his informant) at a coffee shop in Ho Chi Minh City. Artemis Fowl is lead to a sprite fairy where he tricks the sprite into giving him the Book which could allow Artemis to bring back his family’s wealth. Artemis spends countless hours trying to decode the Book using a language program that would translate the Book to English. Artemis finally translates the Book and has a steak out where an old Oak tree is by the bend in a river which is where fairies must go to renew their magic. With the help of his Butler, Artemis catches Captain Holly Short who was on her way to renew her magic.
The book begins with a prologue describing how boy genius Artemis Fowl is and his plan to restore his family’s wealth. Artemis Fowls is a 12 year old boy genius who comes from a very wealthy family. In this chapter, he and Butler, are in Ho Chi Min City trying to find a fairy and retrieve a book. He meets his contact (Ngyuen) who answered Artemis’s internet ad and takes Artemis to the site where the fairy was spotted. Artemis Fowl asks the sprite for the book of fairies and in return promises to give the sprite rice wine as a bribe. Intentionally Artemis gives the sprite Holy Water which will eat her insides and forces her to give him the book and
