Quast (2012) in her article ‘Why knowledge management is important to the success of your company’ highlights the problem of data overload for managers and company success. Knowledge management typically leads to improved employee involvement, organisational creativity and innovation (Oxford, 2006, page 301). Quast’s interpretation of knowledge management is valid, identifying the need to build organisational learning and stimulate cultural change and innovation. However, organisational creativity and intrapreneurship are overlooked with her attention focusing on facilitation of decision making capabilities.
A manager’s KM activities need to support organisational learning as a routine part of work, as Quast identifies, and should go on to improve employee involvement. These activities involve capturing live data for everyday business operations, summarising it into information and managing this knowledge for company creativity and success. This knowledge can contribute to organisational strategy, learning, and streamlining and processes
