ArtistsReflection on 4 Artists 1 Tree:

What important concept does 4 Artists Paint 1 Tree convey concerning the perception and expression of objective, observable things? (The tree) The important concept that I picked up on was that though all of these varied views are put onto a tree that the artist’s perspectives and individualistic views are what are important. By the creativity behind how the artists pushed the bounds of how a tree is normally perceived and instead viewed the tree in a way that is more connected to them then how the tree’s appearance actually appeared. By the views in which a person may look at the tree and draw it for the exact appearance in comparison to how a majority of artists may look at the tree and see something else. Personal expression is prevailing in the way that it separates what is and a fresh and innovative look into the expansive amount of imaginative ideas that can inspire new ways in which to perceive objective objects.
On the other hand, how are the goals of the artists and the historian different?
The goals of an artist can vary by a person but what I see as common goals of an artist are the following. To express a message, visual idea, or deeper meaning to the artists feeling. Also, to explain something and give a different meaning to something or explain something that the artists sees or feels about something. I think that not onl

The medium used to construct this artwork is oil paint. This artwork shows a pine tree which seems to be in the forest or near many other trees. About half of the pine tree has less leaves than the other half of the pine tree. This must be what the name of the artwork is talking about which has something to do with the time “Five O’Clock”. The pine tree to the right of the centered pine tree seems to full compared to the center tree. The tree is asymmetrical due to the amount of leaves on one side as opposed to the leaves on the other side. Similar to the artwork Buffalo Hunter, the form of art is fine art because this is an oil painting on a canvas. I believe the content of this artwork relates to the growth of the tree in relation to time that has passed. And also similar to the painting Buffalo Hunter, this painting is two-dimensional because it is on a…

The Yoshida Hiroshi print “Cherry Tree at Kawagoe” is part of the series “Eight Scenes of Cherry Blossoms”, which depicts a variety of views during the cherry blossom season. In each picture the blossoms are in a different state of development, rather than each depicting the blossoms at the height of their season and beauty. This highlights the transient nature of the blossoms which makes them all the more beautiful. One of the prints, “Yozakura in the Rain” depicts two brightly clad women under umbrellas in the middle distance gazing at slightly bedraggled trees in the background. The distance by which the viewer is removed from the events of the print contributes to the sense of melancholy and transitivity depicted in the print. This contrasts with another…

UNITY: As you take a look at this piece, you can notice unity right away. The artist uses color, texture, and line to interweave this beautiful work of art together. Bright, analogous warm colors are unified throughout the piece including the reflection on the pathway and the green field on the horizontal plane. Texture was another element used by the artist to tie this piece together. Take a look at the texture created in the leaves, the thick paint is lifting off the surface of the canvas. This same texture is used throughout the landscape and the reflection on the pathway. Line was also used to tie the piece into one. The first noticeable lines are from the horizontal reflections on the pathway, which leads to the vertical lines from the thick tree trunk. Those lines are then extended in the branches which fold inward onto the picture plane. This creates an “O” which helps bring the piece together.…

He uses different shades of the same hue for the leaves of the trees just like van Gogh but he puts them in dots next to one another, immediately creating unity and variety in the painting. The stipulating technique is especially important because the dots for the leaves create a still and calm image. Unlike The Olive Trees, the trees in The Park do not appear to be swaying in movement. They just seem still and at ease. This ease look makes the audience feel a sense of serenity in…

Old Trees, Level Distance in (figure 1) was created by Guo Xi a late 11th century landscape painter (Old Trees, Level Distance, 2008). In this particular painting the artist has used a traditional Chinese style approach of hand scroll with ink and color on silk. This approach is especially seen in the traditional design of crab-claw trees and devil face rocks (Old Trees, Level Distance, 2008). However, Guo Xi’s used an innovative brushwork pattern that added rich, texture to the ink and contrast of this painting compared to earlier traditional works. The artist has used outlines, texture strokes, and ink washes in this painting that creates a landscape atmosphere of moisture or wet presence (Old Trees, Level Distance, 2008). Furthermore, the painting conveys the artist’s personal emotions as it gives off an impression of farewell and symbolic sadness.…

Ways of Seeing by John Berger discusses many forms of the meaning of art, our way of recognizing images, the value of art, and other various arguments. The first chapter explains how seeing and recognition comes before words and that words only help to explain the world. Everything we see is influenced by our beliefs and what we know. This is actually true because personally I often label an object from a painting, such as my “macbook,” instead of using other words like “laptop, PC, computer, etc.” My beliefs are different than other people, which allows me to see an object based on my experiences. Berger also argues that the meaning behind images is often changed because of reproduction, mystification, and value.…

The Tree of Life was painted by Klimt and presented into the public in 1909. This artwork was different than most of his artwork which showed a rather erotic nature and thus became a favorite among both the young and the old. The essence in this artwork, as I see it, is that it is such a simple title but still a one which can be pondered in great detail. The Tree of Life is a major symbol in all sorts of cultures and religion and this aided in people having a same, yet different opinions about the painting.…

Giacometti was a key player in the Surrealist art movement, but his work resists easy categorization. Some describe it as formalist, others argue it is expressionist or otherwise having to do with what Deleuze calls 'blocs of sensation' (as in Deleuze's analysis of Francis Bacon). Even after his excommunication from the Surrealist group, while the intention of his sculpting was usually imitation, the end products were an expression of his emotional response to the subject. He attempted to create renditions of his models the way he saw them, and the way he thought they ought to be seen. He once said that he was sculpting not the human figure but "the shadow that is cast."…
