Assigment Week 1
Week 1

This article was well written. I was able to find a few topics that I find to be important on a work group. Ethics, self-competency, diversity and have better communication are some of the things I like to highlight. Those are some of the leadership abilities that I find most essential to a leader. Mr. Donahoe is an effective leader because he understands all of those principals.
There is a big different from be a manager to be a leader. A Manager is the person responsible for planning and directing the work of a group of individuals, monitoring their work, and taking corrective action when necessary. (F. John Reh) A leader is someone that can see ahead of everyone of his time. Is someone that has a vision and knows the steps that everyone must take to be where he wants all to be.
I decided to comment about Walt Disney because on my opinion he was a good example of a leader. I would like to comment in three attributes that I have learn from him. * Innovation: As long as there is imagination left in the world, Disneyland will never be complete.(Walt Disney) The Idea that you can always do better helped the company to be creative and grow more and more. * Self-competency: I don 't make pictures just to make money. I make money to make more pictures.(Walt Disney) To have self-competency you most like what you do. You need to have passion for your work so you can always give the best of your efforts. * Ethics: It does not matter what color, age, sex, or country you come from, Walt Disney made all of us to feel the same about our dreams. He created a place in this world that shares the message that we are all equal.

Knowledge is one of the most important skills that a employee can have. I learned from one of my first boss the importance of learn and be the expert on my team. Knowledge can bring you comfort and self confidence. People can steal all from you, but not your knowledge. You gain knowledge with time and lots of efforts. Walt Disney was not just someone who drew cartoons for a section of a newspaper; he changed the American culture with his creativity and ideas. Walt Disney is a man who changed the way people entertain themselves. Because he inspired so many people, they strive to become who they want to be so that they can be successful, like him. I chose Walt Disney for my project because he has had a major effect on my life through his movies, cartoons, and theme parks. When I saw “Steamboat Willie” starring Mickey Mouse, I thought that it was very interesting because that was one of Disney’s very first films and that is where his career began with Mickey. Walt Disney once said, “It all started with a mouse,” but if you ask me, it did not start off with…

The Oxford English Dictionary describes competency as the ability to deal with a subject, and as the “sufficiency of qualification” (OED, 1989). Merriam-Webster Online defines competence as “a sufficiency of means for the necessities and conveniences of life” and “having sufficient knowledge” to enable an action. In legal terms, competency refers to an individual who exhibits the ability to act prudently in give circumstances, including the ability to perform a job or an occupation, or to reason or make decisions (Dusky v. U.S., 1960). The meanings of competency are varied and include the ability of a person to perform a job (Woodruffe, 1993); skills that are developed in a pattern (Bradley & Huseman, 2003); a behavior or series of actions that can be demonstrated, observed, and assessed (Manley & Garbett, 2000)…

Competency comes from always striving for excellence in whatever you do. When completing my observation hours for my URI field experience course, I found that my best days there were the ones where I asked the most questions. Asking questions shows that you are eager, curious, and honest enough to admit that you are not all knowing. When I found that I was not able to answer questions from my mentor, I studied those areas so that I would be better prepared the next time I faced that situation. Although I have learned a lot in the last four years as an undergraduate student, and through my experiences as an intern and a PT aide, I know I still have a lot to learn.…

The method by which a person can seek to be successful in the varied areas of their life, can be pin pointed to how well a person is aware of them self. To be more specific, the person needs to have an understanding of self-awareness and the connection it has to success. "Self-awareness is fundamental to self-leadership. Leaders who have mastered self-awareness are realistic and accurate when they assess their personal strengths and weaknesses." (Watson, 2004). Thereby self-awareness comes from knowing what are the personal strengths and weaknesses we have as it relates to the areas of our lives such as with family, work and school. Based on my desire to better myself in the different areas of my life, I seek to identify the abilities and skills I hold strongest, discover the areas I am weakest in and define how I can go about in making improvements based on my findings.…
