Casilda, like you I will be practicing in the state of florida as a Nurse Practitioner. For the salary basis test, employees being paid on a salary basis have a distinct definition. The FLSA defines salary as payment of an equal amount every pay period no matter how many or how few hours are worked, as well as compensation not being subject to reduction on the basis of quantity or quality. By this definition an employee can expect to receive a guaranteed minimum amount of pay each pay period. If an employee works a minimum of one hour during a work period the employee should receive the full amount of the guaranteed minimum payment. The salary basis test is subject to many…
Both Title VII and Section 760.10 are sections of anti-discrimination laws that specifically address employment practices; some portions of the Florida law are lifted virtually verbatim from the federal Title VII version. In his article Florida v. Harris: Turning Police Dogs into Search Warrants on a Leash, John Whitehead questions the intentions of both police officers and Supreme Court judges, who seem to be condoning and ruling in favor of unconstitutional searches of American citizens. The criteria for what qualifies as probable cause has now been left up to the judgement of an officer. With variance in why a search should be conducted, Americans are left in the dark when it comes to their own rights. Although the Constitution outlines these rights, their interpretations gets lost when the Supreme Court rules in the favor or those who seem to be abusing their power rather than using it to protect the American people. .…
I have always wondered why so many people love going to West Palm Beach and Tallahassee. These two cities are not a skip and hop away from each other, but they are visited by many. These cities have been around for decades and share similarities as well as differences. West Palm Beach is home of many beaches, however Tallahassee has none. What they do have in common is they both are located in Florida, and both cities have are homed to many tourist.…
The state of Florida comprises a diverse population, large geography, and numerous counties. Hillsborough County is one of the larger counties in the state, ranking number 4 of 67 in terms of population. An expansive area with large cities and a growing population, Hillsborough provides numerous opportunities for education, healthcare, and employment. Having a large population makes the county a great area to conduct research on significant health problems. For instance, there has been a dramatic rise in cardiac related deaths within the county over the years, placing heart disease as a priority health concern. To emphasize, in the entire state of Florida, cancer related deaths rank highest and coronary related deaths rank second.…
Agencies and organizations count on good administrators to supervise employees, delegate assignments, and ensure that productivity is kept at the required standard. An effective administrator wears many hats, including that of a counselor and motivator, and must know how to deal with a variety of different personalities. Successful administrators possess a combination of skills and qualities that enables them to provide effective leadership. The object of administrative study is to rescue executive methods from the confusion and costliness of empirical experiment and set them upon foundations laid deep in stable principle (Stillman, 2010). Throughout my observations and lessons learned from the case studies and virtual guest I have identified fairness, motivation, communication, and mentoring as personal strengths of a Public Administrator.…

Comparative Public Policy Analysis examines the courses and consequences of public policies on contemporary democracies, through a strong interdisciplinary frame work. According to Hiedenhiemer states that comparative public policy “relate to the dynamics in the social and economic systems, but the primary focus is on explicitly comparative analysis of how states differ in the manner in which their policies are politically grounded” (1985:442). His argument revolved around various thresholds of visibility- the development of policy as comparative cross-nationally, comparability–The ability to compare policies (type of method undertaken), conceptual Coherence-universality of definitions and models across boarders; North America and Western Europe and durability- comparative studies subject to the various reform measures. A comparative study is critically important in policy analysis and process because it provides an environment for policy evaluation, feedback and more efficient and effective policy formulation.…
