Assignment 4 Celta
Assignment 4 – Lessons from the Classroom

The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

I decided to take the CELTA because it seemed like a fairly easy way to make some money while I traveling. However, a mere month's exposure to teaching has given me the confidence to pursue teaching English as a serious career alternative, should I ever get sick of political antics and swindlers' conspiracies. All through my life, people told me I would make a decent teacher. Now, I believe it. I believe it because I have braved the utterly nerve-racking schedule of assignment submissions and lesson planning and teaching without falling apart. Though I learned a lot from our wonderful trainers (full credits to Gabbi and Maureen) and my absolutely wonderful classmates, I really have miles to go before I sleep (literally).

I have definitely come a long way since then. I have learned a lot from the critique and feedback by classmates and tutors, observation of peers and experienced teachers, and from self-reflection. I discovered the very first day that it was important to establish a good rapport with the students and be comfortable talking with them. Observing Darin during his first lesson taught me a very valuable lesson – I learned it was important to engage students in conversation rather than assume the role of a traditional teacher. Though Maureen commented on June 23, the first day of TP, that I

There are several artist and paintings in the Sharon Patton book. To choose one particular landscape painting would be tough. Moreover, in choosing this painting and discussing why I think black artists may have used these landscape paintings as a means of expression during the abolitionist movement can be possible to do so. Within several of these landscape paintings, I do believe that I see possible hidden messages. An important topic in question would be if these particular artists during the abolitionist movement simply avoided the grim realities of slavery in America or not. The one that I believe hits all of these angles would be the landscape painting Land of the Lotus Eaters by Robert S. Duncanson.…

Official crime statistics show that males are four times more likely to commit crimes than females. Victim surveys show women to be more likely to be victims of sexual and violent assaults than males. It has also been suggested there are gender differences in punishments. And therefore different people have given their explanations for the reasoning behind this. The official crime statistics show that women commit less crime than men. Men are convicted of 80% of serious crimes, and women only make up about 5.7% of the prison population. There is also a difference in the types of crimes committed by men and women; most women are imprisoned for non-violent crimes such as theft or handling of stolen goods, which accounts for 57% of known female offenders in 2002…

Many believe that the explicit use of sex and violence on television has a drastic impact on the morals and teachings of our youth in today’s society. Children are placed in a difficult position, in today’s society, to fit in and be well liked and respected by their peers. They are at an early stage in their lives where nearly everything they see or hear will influence and shape them in one sense or another. As television costs have dropped substantially over the years, more and more families have access to the entertainment source. Decades ago, it was considered a privilege of the wealthy and upper-middle class to own a television. However, in contemporary society, it is uncommon for even the poorest of citizens in developed countries to be without at least one television set in their homes. There’s no denying that television is the primary source of entertainment when in the confines of ones home. “The average American household has the television set turned on 8 hours and 14 minutes daily…The average time American children spend watching TV each day is two to four hours (Trueman).” Therefore, I consider the television to be one of the most influential determinants in shaping a child’s attitude, morality, and their perceived notion of reality.…
