Compare and contrast the Assyrian and Persian empires.
The era before Christ was filled with kings that wanted an empire like no one has ever seen before. Throughout history we hear about many empires that tried to take over territories to become great but only a few succeed. Both Assyrians menacing ways and Persians new approach to conquering both lead great nations in their time. Though like everyone else their era eventually comes to an end, both of these powerhouses showed the world new inventions and had an enormous will to be the greatest of all time.
Just a few years after 900 B.C., Assyrians began its expansion right into northern Mesopotamia by conquering Aramaean city states in the way. Assyrian glorified the act of warfare and that came with building an army that could withstand any battle. Their army was a set priority, there was no way around it. Every adult Assyrian male had to, by law, participate in the army. Their barbaric ways worked, ultimately conquering most of Egypt and all of Palestinian territories. To make sure they assured complete control and domination they often made an example out of people. They were believers of practicing terrorizing tactics to show dominance. They often skinned men, mutilated their bodies and even went as far as burning people alive. This was just a way of them saying that we are in charge, whether you like it or not. Along with their brutal tactics they would build walls made out of purely of human skulls. Once again showing their terrifying, barbaric ways.
Assyrians had completed its tasks to try and build the largest regional empire so far. Though their tactics were bazaar and very crude, Assyrians were really talented men. For warfare they had solders riding horses during battle, to give them an edge. These men were also responsible for war innovations like the siege towers.
