Atticus Finch Characteristics
Have you ever wanted to see an almost perfect character in a book? In To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, she created a character like this who lives in Maycomb County. This book was set during the Great Depression. Atticus in To Kill A Mockingbird, it's the town lawyer of Maycomb. He is also the father of Scout and Jem Finch. The story is about a family who lives in Maycomb County that faces difficulties throughout the story. Atticus is a good teacher, stays solid, and is a respectful person when he is raising his children in Maycomb County which effects the story positively because his characteristics made who his children became. This quote means that when a child asks you a question, do not sugar coat the answer. This characteristic is important because he helped everyone that he could by teaching them what he knew. This affected the story this is how Atticus taught his children who charged 8 the story drastically. Atticus always stood for what he believed in, no matter how difficult the problems became.
He told Scout, “If I didn't, I couldn't hold my head up in town…” (Lee 100).
This quote was saying that if he didn't defend Tom Robinson, he couldn't be in charge anywhere anymore. This trait is important to Atticus’ character because he stood up for Tom Robinson because he believed in doing what is right. This characteristic affected the story because without staying firm in what he believes, the trial would have never started because Tom Robinson wouldn't have a lawyer. Atticus Finch is one of the most respectful people in the book. He told Jem, “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view” (Lee 30). The quote means that people act differently from others because of what they have been through. This trait is important because he could have gotten in trouble if he had a quick temper when Bob Ewell spit on him. This characteristic affected the story because he was like the holding block of the Finch family.
