Finch isn't that kind of person, he is the opposite in the fictional novel To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee. In the novel Atticus is the father of two main characters Scout and Jem. Scout and Jem are young and don't know much, this is noticed when Scout fights anyone that insults or makes fun of her and Atticus teaches her about life. Atticus is also a lawyer and is a good one at that and he is determined to do his job effectively. Atticus Finch is a determined, wise, and tolerant father and lawyer.
Throughout the book, Atticus is determined to raise his children and do his job correctly. Atticus gives his children life lessons and instead of punishing them he teaches. For example, when Scout made fun of Walter Cunningham Atticus told Scout, “you never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view … until you climb into his skin and walk around in it” (Lee 39). One way he shows that he is tolerant when dealing with his children. When Scout or Jem would do something like getting in a fight, or make fun of someone, he didn't just burst and spank them. Instead, he talked to them to help them learn to get a better understanding on the situation for example, when Scout didn't want to go to school anymore, he sat down and asked her “something wrong, Scout?” (Lee 39) and had a discussion with her. Another way Atticus shows he is tolerant is with the trial of Tom Robinson. After losing the trial Atticus didn't blow up on the jury for punishing an innocent man, rather he knew he did what he could and was going to do more even though he knew Tom was dead right when Bob Ewell walked in.
