During this stage humans did not have the scientific outlook, therefore it is characterized by unscientific outlook. For example, many persons saw God everywhere in nature. They supposed that excess or deficiency of rain due to Godly wrath; such a casual explanation would be in terms of theological or fictitious explanation(Palgrave 14). The theological stage of thinking was divided into stages: Fetishism, Polytheism and Monotheism. Fetishism was the first stage of theological thinking. During this period people believed that there is a living spirit in the nonliving objects.. People worshipped nonliving objects like nature, stones, a piece of wood, etc. These objects are considered as Fetish. Polytheism means believing in many Gods. People believed that different Gods control different natural forces. Each God had some function, For example, God of water, God of rain and God of fire, God of air, etc. The last believe was monotheism which is prevalent in our current society. They believed that there was only one God to serve and worship.
