“At last, at long last, the final evening of Marge’s stay arrived… She jerked her head at Harry, who felt his stomach clench. The Handbook, he thought quickly… Aunt Marge’s voice seemed to be boring into him like one of Uncle Vernon’s drills… Harry was shaking all over. He had never felt so angry in his life… “COME BACK IN HERE!” he bellowed. “COME BACK AND PUT HER RIGHT!””(26-30). I found this very significant because in the story Uncle Vernon told Harry Potter that if he behaved good for the week Aunt Marge was staying, he would sign Harry’s permission slip to Hogsmeade. Harry was doing great until the last day of Marge’s stay, when he blew mad and made Marge blow up.
I found challenging, the thought that Harry is forced to call Marge “Aunt”, when Marge hates the thought of Harry in general. “Even though she was not a blood relative of Harry’s (whose mother had been Aunt Petunia’s sister), had been forced to call her “Aunt” all his life.” …show more content…
Why would Marge want to be called “Aunt” by Harry?
I mean, Marge is always talking bad about Harry. She basically hates him. Wouldn’t she be insulted on hearing Harry calling her “Aunt”?
01-08-17 “The Dementor”
“And then the thing beneath the hood, whatever is was, drew a long, slow, rattling breath, as though it were trying to suck something more than air from its surroundings”(83). I think that the dementor did not only take away their happiness of the kids, but their hope in going back to Hogwarts.
“You fainted, potter? Is Longbottom telling the truth? You actually fainted?”(87). What I don’t understand, is why did the dementor attack Harry and not any of the other students boarding the train? Is Harry something special?
01-08-17 “Telons and Tea
Leaves”
“Professor Trelawney surveyed Hermione with mounting dislike. “You’ll forgive me for saying so, my dear, but I perceive very little aura around you. Very little receptivity to the resonances of the future”(107). In this chapter, Professor Trelawney, basically said that Hermione was no good. It is weird because everyone says hermione is the best in everything. That's what I don’t understand.
““It looks like a Grim if you do this,” he said, with his eyes almost shut, “but it looks like a donkey from here,” he said, leaning to the left”(108). At first, Professor Trelawney, said that she saw a Grim, but as other students started seeing the tea leaves left on the cup, they started seeing other figures. Is the Professor giving fake predictions?
01-08-17 “The Boggart in the Wardrobe”
“Neville went scarlet. Harry glared at Snape; it was bad enough that he bullied Neville in his own classes, let alone doing it in front of other teachers”(132). My thoughts are that this could be because Neville Longbottom is a clumsy kid. He always gets things wrong and is bullied a lot. It is very sad because Professor Mcgonagall compared him to Peter Pettigrew.
“Then they saw a silvery-white orb hanging in the air in front of lupin, who said, “Riddikulus!” almost lazily”(138). Since a boggart turns into someone's fear, that orb, represented Lupins fear. A Full Moon. His fear was transforming into a werewolf because his human brain doesn’t go with him as he transforms. This wasn’t out there, you’d have to read inside the lines.
01-08-17 “The Patronus”
““And how do you conjure it?” “With an incantation, which will work only if you are concentrating, with all your might,on a single, very happy memory…”(237). What I don’t get, is if a dementor feeds on happiness, wouldn’t you be risking your life? To defend yourself from a dementor, you have to use a patronus charm and in order to cast it, you have to think of happy thoughts. If you fail on casting it, the dementor would feed on you even more, wouldn’t it, since your thinking happily?
Harry tried three times to achieve his patronus charm. Two times he failed, but his last one succeeded. I really like this because Harry Potter challenged himself until he got the charm right. He fainted twice, but got to his feet. Very brave and I feel that the act made Lupin know that Harry really wanted to learn.
01-08-17 “Gryffindor Versus Ravenclaw”
“… commentary, which was being provided by the weasley twins’ friend Lee Jordan… “JORDAN! ARE YOU BEING PAID TO ADVERTISE FIREBOLTS? GET ON WITH THE COMMENTARY!””(261). I believe this is very funny. This brings our Mrs. Rowling's humorous side.
““An unworthy trick!” she was shouting. “A low and cowardly attempt to sabotage the Gryffindor seeker! Detention for all of you, and fifty points from slytherin…”(263). I really disagree with the consequences given to Malfoy and his gang! Those brats deserve to be expelled and put into Azkaban for mocking a dementor. Then again, a dementor is just like Malfoy, both disgusting things..
01-08-17 “The Quidditch Final”
“Hermione flung her arms around Ron’s neck and broke down completely. Ron, looked quite terrified, patted her very awkwardly on the top of the head”(292). This is nice and kind of funny. I feel like it is foreshadowing their relationship.
“Or was it only Crookshanks? Harry squinted, pressed his nose flat against the glass. Crookshanks seemed to have come to a halt… And just then, it emerged - a gigantic, shaggy black dog...”(303). Who said cats and dogs hated each other? Crookshanks, a cat, was with a dog.
01-08-17 “Cat, Rat, and Dog”
“Too late - the rat had slipped between Ron’s clutching fingers, hit the ground, and scampered away. In one bound, Crookshanks sprang after him…”(333). Cats eat rats, but Crookshanks never ate Scabbers even when he had a perfect opportunity to do it. The cat knows that the rat isn’t a rat. That's saying something.
““If you want to kill Harry, you’ll have to kill us too!” he said fiercely.” Harry is very lucky to have best friends that would stick up for him.
01-08-17 “Hermione’s Secret”
““Sirius is locked in Professor Flitwick’s office on the seventh floor. Thirteen window from the right of the west tower. If all goes
well, you will be able to save more than one innocent life tonight. But remember this, both of you: you must not be seen…” I feel that this is a challenge to Hermione and Harry because they will have to be very cautious on who they meet. As well as, their time management.
This chapter was how Hermione and Harry time traveled back and played important roles, that helped them out a lot. I feel that this had to take Mrs. Rowling a lot of thinking to get the parts done right. It is very creative and a unique perspective for the Harry Potter series.
01-08-17 “Owl Post Again”
““…And I remember the most unusual form of your patronus took, when it charged Mr. Malfoy down at your quidditch match against Ravenclaw. So you did see your father last night, Harry….You found him inside yourself””(428). Dumbledore is very mysterious in my opinion. Mrs. Rowling made his character to be read deeply. Very confusing, Dumbledore is.
““You're not leaving just because of that!” Said Harry. Lupin smiled wryly”(423). This proves that Harry really liked Lupin as a teacher!
