Authria Alternate Ending Essay
“Authria, I’ll tell you one more time to bring me the sulfur before I put you on a library ban!”

I jolted from my bookish stupor, quickly hiding my newest book under my bed. I knew from experience that the Headmaster didn’t make empty threats, and I don’t know if I could handle having nothing to read in the upcoming weeks. Samhain was approaching, and it was going to be pretty dull. I still wasn’t allowed to help with the annual Ritual of Revival, in which the Headmaster contacted the worshipped gods of our town and asked them to provide us with a fruitful harvest.

“Authria!” He screamed, and I snapped out of yet another reverie and hurried down to the basement where the Headmaster kept his workshop. The steps creaked as I skedaddled, and

“I’ll do it, just gather your things and continue your studies in the kitchen. There should be another pot of ink in the cupboard. I hesitated. “But I can fix it, I swear!” “I think you’ve done enough, Authria.” He replied, and I knew he wasn’t just referring to the ink. Not reading the lesson, saying I didn’t want to be a wizard... the Headmaster had a short fuse, and I had already caused it to run out. I swallowed a lump in my throat and headed upstairs with my things. I just wanted him to see my point of view for once; I guess I thought that maybe if I kept bucking against his word, he would finally sit me down and ask me why, and for once listen. That’s all I wanted, was for him to listen and take me seriously for once. Maybe I should just stop hoping for the impossible. END CHAPTER 1
BEGIN CHAPTER 2

Dinner was an awkward affair. There was still a lot of tension between my grandpa and I, at least there was to me. He was so hard to understand sometimes, and getting a read on his emotions was still something I found difficult, even after living with him my whole

Childhood memories of dinnertime hold a special place in my heart. What used to be a daily experience of family unity and sharing is unfortunately now reserved for holidays and an occasional Sunday or birthday gathering. Rather than each family member drifting into his or her own individual world as their life grew busier, we always had the interaction during mealtime to strengthen our family bonds and enrich the daily experience of community life. My mother would create a meal consisting of either a pasta, or meat and potato type meal for our family of six. Our evening meal always included a salad, plenty of vegetables, and a basic dessert like brownies, pie, or ice cream. There was never an official dinner time since my dad’s schedule varied. Therefore,…

The brilliant green door was whipped open aggressively, milliseconds after my brown ash staff made contact with the circular door, erasing the secret mark that I had made present just the morning before. Bifur, Bofur, Bombur and Thorin tumbled in onto the mat like clumsy deer born for the first time, landing at the feet of the enflamed hobbit that now stood before us. Bilbo Baggins, great-grandson of Old Took looked more confused and stricken than a wet cat and apologies immediately started flowing out of his mouth like the current of the Forest River. A hearty laugh bellowed out as I could just not help myself, leaning on my staff, observing the grumbling dwarves as they set their stubby bodies upright, tripping over their beards.…

Recently, I became ill with an upper-respiratory infection. The first few days, it just felt like a simple cold, so I thought it would be okay to go over to my boyfriend’s house for dinner. He cooked us a meal, then poured two glasses of wine. Even though I was a little under the weather, I drank the glass. Previous to this, he and I had discussed that I would be spending the night there because we had not seen each other for awhile. I looked forward to this because I was sick, and wanted the comfort and care from another person. After I drank the glass, I started to feel worse. My face turned red, and I was burning up with a fever. He quickly assessed me and said: “You should go home.” This offended me. I had hoped he would want to take care of me, not throw me out because of my illness. I tried to reason with him, but he kept telling me I should leave. He offered to drive me home even though I drove, telling me he could pick me up in the morning. I became very closed off from him then. Slowly putting the pieces together, he asked me if I had ever spent the night with someone when I was sick, and I said yes. He responded saying: “I thought it was normal to want to sleep alone when you’re sick.” I had misunderstood that he was…

I loved my grandfather and he died when I was in 7th grade. He was a great man who loved his family and completely changed his life with the help of my grandmother. He used to be a hellion when he was younger. He drank a lot and he had anger issues. Once he met my grandmother, she completely changed him and turned him into a caring and loving person. I admire his change and I would ask him questions about how my grandmother completely changed his persona in such a short amount of time. I loved the story’s he used to tell me about how he would steal and lie. These stories are funny and every time I think of them, they brighten up day. I want to invite my grandfather to dinner so he can see how I am getting good grades in high school, going to college to be an accountant, and having a part time job at the hospital. I know that he would be so proud of me and my accomplishments. Having him at dinner with me would mean the world to me.…
