Autism Affects Children

What is Autism? And why should I care? Well, those are good questions, that I plan to answer. Autism is a mental disease that affects children, first used to diagnose social problems in 1911. We’ve slowly learned more, and it’s gotten worse. It might be because of unawareness that it’s taken so long to make any headway. It affects up to 1 in every 45 children between 3 and 17. It’s only grown, and it will continue to grow if we don’t do anything to stop it. It makes children have a more difficult time in social interactions. It impedes their ability to be functioning members of society. And it’s continued to grow. Even if nobody you know has Autism, many others do, and it affects the entire world. The cause isn’t clear. The only way to be
able to find a cure is to spread awareness. The more people that know and try to help get rid of Autism, the more leeway we’ll make. One way that people are spreading awareness is making a muppet named Julia. Well who is Julia? She is a muppet with Autism. They made her to show Autism acceptance and spread awareness. CBS news sent Stahl to see what it took to create her? “Well in this particular case, it takes a lot of sensitivity,” Stahl says. She interviewed Rollie Krewson, a puppet designer often referred to as “Elmo’s mom,” who has been with “Sesame Street” since the 1970s. Krewson created Julia’s Muppet with consideration down to the smallest detail.
In conclusion, Autism is a real problem, and should be treated like one. It needs to be fixed, and maybe one day it will, but not if people everywhere don’t try to help fix it. So spread awareness. Because even if you think you’re not making much of a difference, every person counts.
