Please accept this letter as a formal letter of recommendation in support of Ava Williams’ application for the HRSA Nursing Scholarship offered by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. (Last 4 digits of SSN- 5797). I have known Ava Williams for 9 years and 4 months and can truthfully state that she is a deserving candidate that you will be proud to have as an example of your ideal scholarship winner. Ava Williams is the daughter of my client and good friend. During the time that I have known Ava, it has become apparent to me that she is an example of a good citizen who is committed to academics, as well as to growing in her professional life while also helping others.

She was involved in analytical testing and method validation in support of a clinical stage full scale manufacturing facility. During that time she developed skills in research and decided to pursue a masters degree in genetics. After obtaining her MS degree in genetics, she worked and volunteered at Howard University’s genetic clinic where she was involved in a research program conducted by the National Institute of Health and DC public schools. This research project focused on the incidence of fetal alcohol syndrome in urban areas of the District of Columbia. She assisted practitioners with patient exams, patient interviews and genetic counseling. While working on this project she realized that she was becoming interested in working with undeserved populations. She realized that the lower income population faced a number of health issues that were primarily as a result of lack of access to health care. She wanted to make a difference by finding ways to address the disparities in the patient population in the study. She took advantage of the opportunity to do what she could to make a difference by providing education to patients about the importance of routine doctor visits and providing information about public programs that were available to assist low income residents. She also participated in Howard University sponsored community health fairs

The HRSA Health Workforce provides multiple programs to help combat shortages of primary care, dental, mental and behavioral health services for underserved communities across the nation. Communities with underserved health care can be due to multiple reasons. Groups of people living in these areas may face economic, language, and cultural barriers to health care. The NURSE Corps Scholarship gives me an opportunity to provide my services that I strongly believe will bring value to patients in these underserved communities. It is incumbent upon me to lend a hand to help in one of many critically short healthcare facilities upon graduating from my nursing program. I will contribute to the mission of the NURSE Corps Program…

As long as I can remember I have always loved to learn new things. When I began my journey back in 2005 to pursue a degree I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted to focus on. What I found amazing was shortly after starting college my love for learning grew exponentially. Today nearly 10 years later I am close to realizing my goal of earning a bachelor’s degree in nursing. When I reflect on how much I have learned over this past year I am so grateful for the learning opportunities that the Bachelors of Science in Nursing at Western Governor University has brought to my life and to my career as a Registered Nurse. The artifacts in my portfolio are the evidence that my program of study has prepared me to be proficient in such areas of professional nursing as, patient safety, nursing research, evidence-base practice, quality of care, effective leadership, and community health. My Leadership Practicum enabled me to discover a healthcare concern on the unit that I work on. In collaboration with team members, we were able to come up with successful solutions that were supported by evidence based research. My Community Health and Population Practicum course required me to broaden my communication skills with others. This course brought me the knowledge and experience that I needed to be proficient in communicating with patients, colleagues, and professionals in the community.…

My name is Hannah Atakorah. I am a currently enrolled in the Family Nurse Practitioner program at Columbus State University. I was born and raised in Accra, Ghana, where there are not many hospitals or nurses to provide the much needed medical care for sick people. Education has always been an essential aspect of my life, but growing up in a single home in Africa did not make it easy. I was exposed to the medical field at an early age because I was fortunate enough to participate in a clinical volunteering program held in the city where I lived in Ghana which gave me a life changing experience. During that period of time, I was able to recognize how nurses are the most important people in the health care field. The sacrifices they make to give an individual top quality care are what make nurses phenomenal people.…
