In Ridley Scott’s film “Alien” the world is introduced to new slimy villain in this 1979 horror sci-fi film. That villain is no other than an alien predator whose instincts is to kill anything moving. The alien is stuck in a commercial spacecraft that has six human crew members and an android. After reading articles about science fiction films I really understood how unique and ahead of its time this film was. it doesn’t go the same route that other sci-fi films go through during the 1970s like the Star Wars (1977), 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), and Close encounter of the Third Kind (1977).…

The soundtrack was impressive and gave suspense and drama as where needed. The special FX was up to date and gave a realistic feel to the movie. The cinematography is what brought this film's ratings up in my opinion. I really like the irony in the lightning, Especially Pegg's use of zoom-ins and quick cuts… hilarious. Also, the camera angles of when Ed drives himself and Shaun to his parent's house dodging zombies left and right was also very entertaining. I believe I almost jumped out of my seat in fright when Ed hit the lurking zombie speeding down the…

As the movie progressed, I found myself really enjoying it and being in awe at the comic adaptations and graphics in every scene. Emanatas, such as light bulbs or question marks, were frequently used to describe the way characters were feeling; narratory blocks, motion lines and fighting "KAPOW!" sings were also applied with an amazing variety of color and graphics. Besides for the comic flashes, the aspect that really stood out was the sound effects. In scenes where two characters were arguing, there would be crashing and lightsaber noises; whereas in love scenes, the kissing sounds along with the visual hearts made it difficult not feel the characters passion.…

Men and women work vigorously every day to support themselves and loved ones. They all work long hours, doing gruesome and dirty work, for such little pay. The two movies Alien (1979), directed by Ridley Scott, and the sequel Aliens (1986), directed by James Cameron, portrays the working class extremely vaguely. In the first movie, a corporation sends out a crew of miners into outer space on the Nostromo and they encounter a weird space creature. Ash, an android disguised as a person, lets the alien on board which goes against the regulations. Ridley, the senior officer of the ship, eventually finds out that the crew was going to be used as food and incubation for the alien so it can reproduce. In the second film, a similar fate happens. The…

Céline Smith Task D - 4th genre Essay 1 February 2015 District 9 is more evolved as a science fiction film than Avatar if one analyses the following themes portrayed in the films: The Alien as the “other”, Genetic transformation and Dystopia through the use of camera angles and shots, colours and music. District 9’s prawns are seen as disgusting creatures that have no recognizable hierarchy, no drive and no understanding of their situation. They are just animals that have the misfortune of landing in Johannesburg. Argo Movie Review

Argo is a movie about the US’s problems with Iran in the 1980’s. I was pleasantly surprised to find it very enjoyable. I don’t tend to enjoy history movies or documentaries, but the plot really captured my attention. I like that the filmmaker gave some background information regarding the conflict because this allowed the viewer to understand what was going on. At the end of the movie, pictures were shown comparing the real events and images to moments from the films. What I found astonishing about this was that the locations, action scenes, and even the people in the film, were replicated so well. I mentioned that I was especially grateful for the background information given at the beginning of the film; the one and only thing that I would have changed was that I would have added more contextual information. This is just because some people such as me find that our history is so extensive, that it tends to overwhelm us to the point where dates, locations, and conflicts are all intertwined in one’s mind. Overall, I found the movie very informational and taught me a lot without being a tedious lesson.…
