My Backpack

My name is Allexus Munoz. Despite the chaos that has taken place in my life, many traumatic. My family has always been; close knit. A family like mine filled with athletes, scholars, and comedians was the best support system to get through the toughest times in our lives but with my family there was nothing that we could not get through. Finding Christ has been the highlight of my life, finding him took place after one of the most life changing traumatic experience. In January of 2004, my dad had collapsed on the floor, which called for an immediate response team. The response team flew him to St. Joseph hospital where he was diagnosed with a brain tumor, a bleeding brain, and although non- cancerous this tumor was quickly growing. With all that was going on after an immediate surgery took place to control the bleeding, and minimize the size of the tumor. After the surgery doctors came out to tell my family, my dad had fell into a coma. It was two months later that doctors advised my mom there was no hope, and he would just be a vegetable if he survived the coma, brain tumor, and more medical issues to come. It was not until a few months later my dad became responsive and more alive and healthy than ever despite his brain tumor located on his brain stem that could not be extracted because of the location. It was not until after a numerous amount of church attendance, prayer, and support that my dad received a spiritual encounter that changed his and our lives forever. To this day, I am a true believer of what Christ is and what he is capable of. I have been developing a relationship with God since I was seven years old, and still to this day I do not have a perfected relationship. Before the incident that took place in 2004, my dad was not the most faithful and loyal husband. The near death experience made him a changed man, with years of a developing relationship with

My older sister was burned in her leg that was a 3rd degree burn, luckily it was nothing bigger than just in her leg, and she was very fortunate that the petroleum that was being used around her did not jump all over her and that there were adults around her to stop the fire from spreading. My older brother has had two close near death experience. The first one was when he was about 7 or 8 years old and we had gone to a lake. I and my older sister were collecting seashells and my brother was showing of that he knew how to swim better than us. We look up to see what he is doing and we see him getting farther and farther from us. He is waving his hands so we can see him trying to get our attention and that’s when we realize that he is drowning. Both my sister and I run to tell my parents and uncles. Ones they saw him well my parents were in shock so the ones that reacted to that were my uncle and aunt. They save him and after seeing that he was okay they made jokes of how they went in with their cellphones, wallet and cigarettes. His second encounter was having a heart attack, we rushed him to the hospital and he was saved ones again. 1. I choose to 5S my backpack because it had been causing small annoyances in my everyday life. For example, I would spend an unnecessary amount of time looking for a writing utensil, my keys, or wallet. This became a problem when I needed to find these items in a hurry. I also had trouble finding papers (and nametags) I needed in the main part of my bag, because there were many unlabeled folders and papers scattered around.…

I had asked my mom, “Why did God choose me to have seizures?” My mom said “God has given you this challenge because he knows that you are strong, you will overcome this and you are going to help change lives for other people battling epilepsy and show them that life does not have to stop”. At that time, I had two choices. I could give up and allow Epilepsy to take over or I could make the decision to not let Epilepsy win and fight it until the end. I was not going to allow this to defeat me or change my dreams of being a baseball player.…

My family aboard the boat began to worry for one another safety. We were now in a life-threatening storm on the midst of a furious river. I observed the innocence of a child in my niece as the depressing look of fear surrounded her shivering, cold, wet body. Yet, she remained hopeful and prayed to God for eternal life in Heaven. We cried out desperate prayers while the raging storm pounded our pontoon boat like a boxing match. My grandfather maintained the courage and strength and proceeded to steer the boat in the horrific scene.…

When my neighbor, best friend, and practically brother died, I was devastated and was the single most difficult experience of my life. From this tragic day I had learned a lesson that cannot be learned any other way. After Spencer Moore had died only a few short years ago I had been taught a lesson that I will be able to see him again. After he had died I knew the only person I could to turn to is our Savior Jesus Christ. He is the only person that knows exactly how I feel in that tragic moment. I knew that because Jesus Christ had suffered our sins in Gethsemane in order to break the bands of spiritual death but more importantly for me at that moment physical death, I could see him again. I had learned that because of that because our Redeemer…

My faith has enabled me to handle life challenges from my past and present. Some of these challenges have been series of events that I could hardly believe were happening, while others came with great joy. At five years old, my younger brother, Chandler, died unexpectedly. This was a tough challenge for my whole family to face. This challenge could have easily torn my family apart but together, as a team with God, we worked hard at picking up the pieces and moving forward even when there were days that seemed to be impossible. In the fifth grade, I was diagnosed with a common learning disability known as Attention Deficit Disorder. I am faced with this challenge on a daily basis. I have learned to cope with this disorder over the years by making prayer and patience priorities in helping me conquer this challenge. This challenge was especially difficult during my SAT and ACT tests. Certain scores on these tests were required to get into college and play NCAA football. The stress and pressure of taking these tests felt unbearable at times. While studying and before and during each test, I would remind myself that, through God, all things are possible. With God by my side, I was able to achieve the scores needed to reach my college and athletic goals.…
