Description Paper “The Eye of the Storm” Rays of sun gleamed upon the bronzed skin of my family while splashing clear green water of the Tennessee River. It was my parents, grandfather, two sisters, niece, and my brother in law. Exhaustion quickly crept among us after a day filled with intense activities such as; skiing, competitive volleyball, and long boat rides on the fragile, slow moving pontoon. We then prepared ourselves for the boat ride home which would soon be a tragedy rapidly moving towards our direction. Suddenly, the once blue summer ski covered in white pearly clouds like marsh mellows, disappeared within moments of departure. Billowing gray clouds suffocated the atmosphere as far as the naked eye could see. A light sprinkle of participation turned into a sever downpour of rain stinging our bare moist skin that no longer protected us. It felt as though petite needles continuously dug deep beneath the epidermis. My family aboard the boat began to worry for one another safety. We were now in a life-threatening storm on the midst of a furious river. I observed the innocence of a child in my niece as the depressing look of fear surrounded her shivering, cold, wet body. Yet, she remained hopeful and prayed to God for eternal life in Heaven. We cried out desperate prayers while the raging storm pounded our pontoon boat like a boxing match. My grandfather maintained the courage and strength and proceeded to steer the boat in the horrific scene. Trees hung sideways at an angle and the green water morphed into a muddy brown color. I kept only a wet towel covering my body from the cold burning rain. Without warning, the whaling winds gathered themselves to lift the immaculate, heavy, beaten pontoon above the flowing water. Fortunately, the air filled top of the pontoon snapped like a stick within second of being air borne. This was a short moment of relief for my family but it still was not finished. The thunder roared and lightening cracked, popping along the water. Death was my constant thought. I felt our destination was decades away and the battle between life and death was not just a distant dream anymore. It had become reality. Minutes translated into dreadful hours and time was nonexistent. Tears streamed down my defeated face and pale complexion as I rewound through my seventeen years of life. My family members and I historically cried and mentally surrendered our hope. However, at that point in time, God proved us incorrect. Just ahead, we could see the outlining of the bridge that stood over our lake house. Emotions of pure joy, relief, and shock overwhelmed my family members and I when we realized we were safe. The storm calmed as we arrived to the dock, drained from the recent trauma experienced. We were speechless but undeniably thankful for the everlasting Lord whom saved us. Life is precious and can be striped from humanity at an unexpected time. Therefore, it should be recognized as sacred and should not be taken for granted.
