Ban On Homework: Constructive Speech
Sofia and I believe that homework is an unnecessary and stressful task that needs to be eliminated. Homework is just busy work that teachers give to students so they can practice/review the learned material. Because homework is an overwhelming and stressful obligation, schools should put a ban on homework, and start training teachers to give better instruction. We would like your opinion on what you would do. Thankyou for giving us this opportunity to share our views with you.
Stress
Homework is just like any chore you’re given as a child, but unlike the daily chores of cleaning the house, feeding the dog, and more, studies have shown that too much homework has negative effects; “ negative effects can extend to students ' lives outside of school, including family, friends, and other activities“ (“Is Too Much Homework Bad for Kids’ Health?”,
n.d.). Homework can lead to sleep deprivation and many other stress related health problems.
“According to the researchers, regardless of how much a student generally studies each day, if that student sacrifices sleep time to study more than usual, he or she will have more trouble understanding material taught in class and be more likely to struggle on an assignment or test the following day” (“Is Too Much Homework Bad for Kids’ Health?”, n.d.). Homework may be known as overwhelming and annoying to students, but teachers also suffer. It’s a given that teachers have to grade a crazy amount of papers from a variety of students from many

different classes. “When it comes to stress, 56 percent of the students considered homework a primary source. Fortythree percent viewed tests as a primary stressor, while 33 percent put the pressure to get good grades in that category. Less than 1 percent of the students said homework was not a stressor” (“Is Too Much Homework Bad for Kids’
