According to Webster’s Dictionary, homework is work or study done in preparation for a certain event or situation (2016). Parents and students throughout the years continuously complain about homework, arguing that it puts too much stress on students and not enough time to participate in extracurricular activities. Homework has been debated since the beginning of the 19th century (Shahzada 4). By the 1930s, educators were stating that homework was terrible and had no beneficial effect (Shahzada 4). When Sputnik was launched by the USSR, students needed to focus more on education which brought homework back to fame (Shahzada 5). Homework must stay in schools because it is preparation for improving test scores, establishes time management skills, and teaches responsibility.
In order to improve test scores, homework is a requirement to a an individual’s success in school. Tests and finals may make or break the overall letter grade, hence reflecting on how well the teacher is performing. Students that were given homework had a 5-to-6 percent higher test average than the students without any homework (Grodner 106). These

A total of 300 teachers was given a self-made questionnaire that stated what they thought about homework (Shahzada 1). About 56.33% of the teachers agreed, that homework promotes a sense of responsibility (Shahzada 12). This is proof that homework promotes a feeling of responsibility to students who do their homework. Responsibility is so important because it is what gets you ready for life. It ensures that a student doesn’t still need to hold onto someone’s hand, but can go and do it on it’s

America is a wonderful country that holds a distinctive quality and that is the acceptance of people from different ethnicities and race to form part of America. Numerous Polls have consistently proved that most Americans believe immigrants who are in the United States illegally should be granted legal status if they take the steps of learning English. This is understandable and should be reinforced. What can't be fair is forcing all immigrants to learn English regardless of their goals in this country. It is great that the United States has no official language. It is a much better idea to allow immigrants to choose whether they want to become legal citizens or not.…

Parents are meant to help children with many different issues that arise. However, when it comes to homework, should parents intervene? This controversial topic is a huge debate among teachers nationwide. Parents should not get too involved in their children's homework because it makes it difficult for teachers to access the students’ understanding of the concept taught, the student will most likely lose the responsibility to do their own homework then later start to depend only on their parents, and although some may argue that if parents get involved it will show the child that school is important, students need to realize their parents will not always be present to encourage them.…

Moreover, homework isn't only wasting the student's time but the teachers time as well. By marking and grading homework, teachers are wasting their time. So teachers, please don't blame us the we wasted your time. Some people assume that homework is useful for teachers to watch student's progress but I firmly believe that homework is sent home to test the parents, not the children. I think that teachers can watch the student's progress in school better because teachers don't know that at home who did the homework, the parent, the student or the internet (Google)??????? People also think that homework helps parents to understand that the school holds high goals for students. But, I consider that school work is harder than homework and that means that parents can understand that the school holds higher goals than they think. Furthermore, homework becomes terrible if no one can help you. If no one can help you then you are doing work that you don’t understand, and if you don’t understand it what’s the point having the work that you can’t even do. I really, strongly believe that more kids would stay in school and have a better learning experience if they did not have the stress of homework.…

Since Roberto Nevilis introduced it to the world as a punishment in 1905, there have been many arguments to whether or not homework should be required. What initially started as punishment for kids who messed around in class has become a mandatory task that all students are required to do daily. I’m here to end that, I intend to show you that students should not be required to complete homework for a grade. Homework consumes too much time and leaves no space for extracurricular activities and causes health problems. On top of that, many students don’t even have the resources required to complete the homework. Despite these things, homework is still a graded assignment that if failed to complete, can drastically bring down a student's grade.…

To begin with, homework is taking way family time and fun time from students. Because students get a lot of homework they no longer have time to spend time with their family or have their own free time. For instance, in the article titled “5 Reasons Why Homework is Bad for Your Child,” the author states, “Children need time to spend with their family, catch up with friends and attend extracurricular activities so they can refresh their minds and bodies.” The reasons that are stated in the article specifically, are examples of how homework takes away family time. School is supposed to only take up to 6 hours but with homework it no longer take 6 hours of school work but more. Therefore, students don’t have enough time to do there own things.…

In this paper I will argue the reasons why I am against home assignments for the early levels of elementary schools. Although homework can have some positive effects for students in the upper grade levels such as, practicing out of school material and learning the responsibility of time management by turning homework in on time. I believe that homework should be removed from students at the Prek-2nd grade level. Providing homework to students, particularly at the Prek-2nd grade level in American can be faulty. I will present examples of the negative results homework has on children such as: stress (mental health, and physical well-being). Other factors include how the amount of time spent on homework can be critical to young…

Second of all, sometimes, when a kid gets assigned homework, it will be from a lesson they just started learning, so he or she doesn’t have a lot of knowledge on it. When they come home, they don’t remember it very well, so they just try a method that makes since. But, if it’s wrong, then they will just be practicing and memorizing the wrong thing. This shows that if students try to go and do an assignment on a topic that they just learned, then they are going to have a lot of trouble understand and doing the work correctly. Another example is if they ask a parent for help, they could teach them the wrong thing because they learned it so long ago. Then the student would become confused and have to chose between two different concepts that they’ve learned. In addition, in a survey of 778 parents, 84% of the parents helped with homework. This proves that kids go home with lots of questions because they are still confused on the topic. This shows that because students are still confused, they have to ask their parents to help them, and most of the time even they don’t know how to do it the correct way. Clearly, because students are still confused on the topic they will either just do it the wrong way…
