Banning Books In John Steinbeck's Of Mice And Men
The community should not be able to ban books. They could be educational to students, and they would be missing out on that education. For example, Of Mice and Men helped our class learn a lot of the literary elements, and good ways to right books. Of Mice and Men and other books like it are banned a lot of the time. However, Of Mice and Men as well as a lot of other books that are banned are banned because of stupid reasons. Sometimes, even, the reason the book was banned was because of what the author used to make things more accurate to the time period, or show characters’ emotions. For example at the beginning of the book Of Mice and Men, some adults might find that inappropriate because of the large amount of swearing. However, Steinbeck

As well as authors should be free to write what they want, according to the 1st amendment(freedom of press). If a student wants to read a book, then they should be able to read it. For example, if a student would like to read a book, but then if he was told he couldn’t read it because it was banned, that would greatly annoy him, and be something he would miss out on. That book could have even made a big impact on that student’s life. Books should be able to be banned, because if we let bad books run free throughout our country, they could pollute it. These violent books could influence children to commit that violence. Some of the swears that are in the book too may also influence children to swear more, just because they saw it in a book. That is not true, because many of the swears help the reader to get a better view of what’s happening, and it’s hard to name one very good book with no violence in it. It would probably not influence readers to be like the characters in the book.
