INTRODUCTION
This chapter discusses the background of the study, objectives, scope and limitations and significance of the project.
1.1 Background of the Study
Barangay Gun-ob is considered as an urban Barangay of Lapu-Lapu City, which has a total land area of 226.92 hectares. Recently, its land use has been categorized as residential and commercial; and is considered one of the five (5) biggest Barangay in the City of Lapu-Lapu. This Barangay have twenty (20) sitios/puroks namely; Kawayan, Kamansi, Balanghoy, Kamonggay, Ubi, Gabi, Kangkong, Kaimito, Saging, Kapayas, Tugas, Sacred Heart, Lemonsito, Ampalaya, Tambis, Nangka, Kalabasa, Kamote, Nangka Lumoy, & Mangga. Gun-ob literally means broken or trouble maker. This according to some historical source that the people and the residents of the area before were not so united that was why they called it GUN-OB (scattered, disunited, & broken).
Barangay Gun-ob as of May 2007 has more or less 14,350 registered voters, and 71 voting precincts. While on October 25, 2011 barangay elections, the registered voters reach to almost again 15,000. As of 2007 census, the total population is 29,807 with 7,040 households and continues rising and increasing because of the many jobs and work opportunities offered by several local and foreign companies in MEPZ and other business establishments operating and located in the different areas in the city.
The Barangay Captain of Gun-ob is Hon. Jose P. Dungog with his following Barangay Councilors: Hons. Luzviminda R. Amodia, Jose Marilito L. Baguio, Michael Y. Bering, Jerico E. Cosep Sr., Adelino T. Amistiso, Procorro S. Ymbong, Prescillo Y. Sorono, and Doroteo E. Taghoy. Mr. Kirby G. Marifosque is the Barangay Secretary, while Mrs. Carmelita D. Limpangog was appointed as Barangay Treasurer.
