Basic Definition of Leadership
A basic definition of leadership is the activity of leading a group of people or an organization, or the ability to do this.In its essence, leadership in an organizational role involves establishing a clear vision, sharing that vision with others so that they will follow willingly, providing the information, knowledge, and methods to realize that vision, and coordinating and balancing the conflicting interests of all members or stakeholders. A leader comes to the forefront in case of crisis, and is able to think and act in creative ways in difficult situations. Unlike management, leadership flows from the core of a personality and cannot be taught, although it may be learned and may be enhanced through coaching or mentoring. Through my experience, I have encountered roles of leadership on numerous occasions. In the past I have worked in groups where I volunteered to be group leader. Another occasion where I was assigned a leadership position was organising a family excursion. This was not an easy task as it seemed. Upon assigning myself for these duties I knew there would a certain level of responsibilities that I would have to take into consideration. From my experience, being a good leader must consist of certain qualities or characteristics. One such characteristic is vision. Good leaders must have a vision. Good leaders know where they are heading and they lead people toward the same vision that they have for their lives, a community, or even a nation. They do not just look at what things are, but at what things could be. Another quality is passion. Good leaders are not passive people. They are usually extremely passionate in whatever they're doing. Whether it is sports or business, leaders are extremely focused and some of them are even consumed by their passion.
