The Battle of Gettysburg was the turning point of the American Civil War. This is the most
famous and important battle of the war. It began on July 1, 1863 and lasted 3 days until July 3rd.
The battle was fought between the Union forces from the North and the Confederate forces from
the South in the small town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
After General John Johnson was killed in battle, General Robert Lee took command. When
Lee took over his forces were fighting barefoot and had barely any food since the North was putting
a blockade on the South. Entering into the battle, Lee had command of about 70,000 men with 280
