hardware’s in form of Mac, I phones, tablets, Ipods. “Apple” has earned number one position on an annual list of the 100 most valuable brands in the world leaving “Google” and “Coca-cola” behind it. (McIntyre , 2013) There are very few public companies in the world whose founders are entwined with the company till the end of their life. “Apple” is one of them. “Steve Jobs”, a charismatic leader laid the foundations of the company then left it and then decades after pulled it from bankruptcy to the world’s most valuable technological firm. So, Culture of “Apple” cannot be described without mentioning “Steve Job” as he is the one who created a set of high standards within the company since its formation and ensured to pass it down and maintain within all groups of the company. Values of this organization are strictly enforced and accountability is biggest of all. “Steve Job” created a culture of holding individuals accountable for specified projects after designating them resources and responsibilities. That’s why, everyone in the company exactly knows what they are supposed to do there is no confusion whatsoever. This Company has little tolerance for failure and more or less known as a brutal and unforgiving place, where accountability is strictly enforced, decisions are swift, and communication is articulated clearly from the top. (Lashinsky, 2011) Hence, culture of the company is very tightly held by the top where Steve Job, corporate dictator, seems to make all types of decisions ranging from the design of the shuttle buses used for transporting employees to and from San Francisco to the food served in the cafeteria.
However, at the same time he ensured that people close to him internalize his espoused values like the attention to detail, the secrecy, the constant feedback, simplicity, specialization--into processes that will safeguard “Apple 's” excellence far into the future. One can safely call the culture of the company as “rigid” however; despite of its rigidity, turnover rate is relatively low. Though, values are largely espoused and enacted by one person in the company yet he has ensured that his cultural beliefs and teachings are collected and preserved for future interpretation and reference. (Lashinsky, 2011) Communication is the most critical aspect of a company’s performance. Internally, “Apple” holds weekly meetings to ensure that everyone is on the same page and all are working towards one project. Everything inside the organization is well defined and well communicated through action plan where each activity and person responsible for that activity is defined. Communication is direct and formal within the company. (Lashinsky,
2011) Nevertheless, “Apple” communicates with outside world through a number of ways including promotional emails, electronic media advertisements, internet etc. Communication is very thoughtful, captivating, simple, clear, and clever. Company is well known for public debuts of its products and such debuts are very well crafted and well planned. Steve Job was very famous for his debuts and now the new CEO Cook is just following his footprints. This also gives the message that company is strictly following the espoused values and cultural beliefs of its founder.
In a sum, “Apple” has completely transformed the whole definition of computers and technology by bringing the desktop into hands of man. Steve Job has left a legacy to the world that has changed the face of the entire world. “Apple” is 35 years old and market’s top leader. Values are the most important asset of this organization and espoused values are the enacted values.
