    Essay on Black Elk Speaks

    • 1225 Words

In the article, Black Elk Speaks with Forked Tongue, Couser is giving his opinion on how he thinks that Neihardt was in actuality suppressing the Lakota way of life and Black Elk’s story. His opinion is backed by some good points from the text and as well as other scholars who have the same opinion as himself. Couser does believe that Black Elk Speaks is a well written book and he even respects and commends Neihardt in his attempt to honor Black Elk, “before detailing the short comings of Black Elk Speaks I would like to acknowledge the considerable efforts Neihardt made to honor Black Elk’s narrative” (Couser). Couser then dives into the idea that this book as an autobiography should be a thing of the past. I think Couser then gets carried away with an opinion about how Black Elk was being censored and the truths were kept secret. Couser’s argument is good but his tactic and tangent near the end could have been left out; it does not hurt the argument but it also is too absurd to help the argument as well.…

    Armadillo Research Paper

Armadillos have one of the highest rates of expansion being 10 times the active rate of a mammal. I think this is because they came from Mexico and the Southern Americas to America and since they do not have much meat on them, they are able to not be hunted. Also Armadillos had this invasion because of the large rivers and hunters in southern America. The armadillos also moved because of the humans invading them in Texas when Humans would start fires in the prairie grass. This then caused the overpopulation of armadillos in Florida due to no more predators, fires and rail road travel where the armadillo would then sneak onto the train and sneak off in Florida. These armadillo were also brought into Floridian zoos as pets and they would escape that. Also a cool interesting fact is that armadillos can live 20 years or even longer (sucks for the ones on the side of the road). So if armadillos can live up to 20 years or even longer they give birth to 4 babies at a time and they have the ability to delay implantation of fertilized eggs for…

In the first chapter of Grendel, I believe that Grendel is more animal than human. In Grendel he is portrayed as a sensitive, intelligent, and immature creature.Grendel is more animal than human because he does act like an animal. For instance, When Grendel states “I cry and , and hug myself, and laugh, letting out all the salt tears…”(Gardner 6). Even animals have feelings. I feel Grendel is not welcomed within society. He feels as though he has worthless. As an example, “Pointless, ridiculous monster crouched in the shadows...”(Gardner 6). He hides in the shadows as he looks for his prey not being welcomed by anyone else. Grendel feasts upon other animals and humans. He eats more cattle than anything. For example, “Cows have more meat and,…

The United States’ declaration of war on Japan after the attack on Pearl Harbor on the date that lives in infamy, December 7,1941, was an inevitable decision manifested from Japan’s occupation of Southeast Asia. The two countries’ worsened tension is delineated through the men in Judith L. Pearson’s novel about a corpsman’s service during the war and of his journey aboard Japan’s notorious hellships. Pearson, inspired by powerful stories on real life heroes, took upon herself to create a complex novel about the strength it took for men like Estel Myers to endure the adverse conditions that were thrust upon them. Through extensive research and the insight of Estel’s brother Ken, Belly of the Beast provides a valuable insight to a rarely recorded…

Most megafauna were over 40kg and 30% bigger then their relatives who are alive today. They’ve existed for over 11 million years but then disappeared in a mass extinction 46,000 years ago. It inhabits all the vegetation types of the Northern Hemisphere and preys on all the large mammals living there. It also feeds on all the other animals in its environment, scavenges, and can even eat fruits and berries. Wolves frequent forests and prairies, tundra, barren ground, mountains, deserts, and swamps. Some wolves even visit large cities, and, of course, the wolf's domesticated version, the dog, thrives in urban environments.…
