Anthem Essay
“Beautiful”: Eminem
My favorite song out of the 3 would have to be “Beautiful” by Eminem. Not only is this song considered by both fans and critics as the strongest song off Relapse, but “Beautiful” is the only song Eminem actually recorded during the hiatus between albums Encore and Relapse when he was not clean. His emotions here in this song are clear to me: The addiction to drugs is sinking him into depression, and he feels trapped, as if there is no escape. Rehab isn’t being helpful at pulling him out of this mood, either. By the end of the song, Eminem expresses more hope for the future.
I also really love this song because of the lyrics and what the mean to me. I am one of those people who don’t care what anyone thinks about them. I am so confident in who I am and truly never let anyone bring me down. I know I’m better than people so it doesn’t matter to me. As I sit and listen to the lyrics, it really makes me think. Like i know that I judge, and I know I shouldn’t, but I do. And after listening to this song, it always opens my eyes. I don’t know what people are going through, and until I do, I shouldn’t judge in any way. This song is a different perspective of Eminem's life. He has always rapped about his difficult situation but people always listened to it from an outside perspective. This song is asking the listener to imagine being him for a minute before judging him.
This song is meant for people who don't believe that they are worth anything. Eminem says that it doesn't matter how much you try to fit in with the "cool kids, even if it [means] acting stupid" because in the end, they will not be there for you. The only people who can call themselves your friend are the people who respect and like you for who you are. It shouldn't matter or affect you in any way when people start putting you down as long as you believe in yourself. Every person is beautiful and should neither judge nor is judged by other people until
