Who Is Tyler Joseph?

Tyler Joseph is a musician, singer, rapper, and songwriter, best known as a lead vocalist for the musical duo Twenty One Pilots. Tyler Joseph as the lead singer and creator of this duo, is often ridiculed because there are so many people who don’t know where they should be categorized. Many people say that they can be known as alternative hip hop and rock, whereas, others say that they could be known as pop. Many critics also believe that their music isn’t good, that there’s no meaning behind it except for the literal meaning of the words put together. Many people don’t look at the meaning behind the words. The meaning behind the words is what makes this music spectacular and worth listening to.

In a review written by Piet Levy, he talks about how the band is very unique and great. In his review, he focuses on the songs that they preformed at Lallapalooza. The crowds that had come to see them at this show are some of the biggest crowds that the reviewer had seen in all of the time he has been reviewing. “Its interesting to hear such self-doubt from such a popular rocker, but it’s actually critical to Pilots’ success’ (Levy,1). Reviewers also have a hard time distinguishing what genre the band is. IT swings from hip-hop to punk to reggae to piano pop to dubstep and everything that could possibly in-between. When Joseph writes a song he tends to not worry about what kind of genre he is being seen as, he just worries about what the meaning of the songs and how people will think and relate to them. He would rather worry about what his fans believe and think of him than what genre he can be seen as. But at the same time he sometimes wonder how he got here. In a review on the St. Louis Post Dispatch he says “‘This is crazy,’ he says. ‘Why do these people care? Are we even good? For some reason, these people come out of the woodwork” (Johnson,1). In the first part of the song he’s just singing that they say stay in your lane boy, and they think this thing is a highway. These lyrics mean that the music industry is telling him that he needs to stay in his lane and do what they say, but that this is a fast paced world and he can do whatever he wants. In the second part of the song they say “We’d have a tempo change every other time change cause our minds change on what we think is good.” This part of the song is talking about how if he was able to write and make the music exactly like he wants it that he would change it up and do it the way he likes because the music industry and their thoughts on what they think is good usually changes all the time. Whats in one day is out the next. “I wasn’t raised in the hood but I know a thing or two about pain and darkness.
