In the first part of the song he’s just singing that they say stay in your lane boy, and they think this thing is a highway. These lyrics mean that the music industry is telling him that he needs to stay in his lane and do what they say, but that this is a fast paced world and he can do whatever he wants. In the second part of the song they say “We’d have a tempo change every other time change cause our minds change on what we think is good.” This part of the song is talking about how if he was able to write and make the music exactly like he wants it that he would change it up and do it the way he likes because the music industry and their thoughts on what they think is good usually changes all the time. Whats in one day is out the next.…
While many of their songs do not feature many lyrics and are mostly synthetic instrumentals, the lyrics that are included are extremely illustrative of Zeds Dead’s social identity. The self- determining lyrics of Zeds Dead tracks parallel Hooks and DC’s independent and easy-going personalities, as they are young and simply exploring the world and enjoying life. In one interview, when Hooks and DC were asked what their three favorite things about touring were, they replied with “Partying, finding cool new food spots, and exploring different cities” (Lex, “Interview with Zeds Dead”). Similarly, these social values are articulated in their song lyrics. For example, in their song “One Time”, which was performed at Fallapalooza at UMD, the lyrics…
Hip hop culture in general has nurtured a dualism within messages sent by lyrics. Nowhere was this duality more evident than the music of Tupac Shakur. As music reflected his reality and at times he’d reference women with derogatory terms, however he showed a level of responsibility with songs such as “Dear Mama” and “Brenda’s got a baby”. The lack of respect was noticed by many. Stress and the need to make a hit increased, he became a sex symbol along with a flock of “haters” trying to kill him. The flirtation with the materialistic trappings that the RAP game has to offer. “Forced laughter”(Shock-G), it was that Tupac was unhappy and this was speaks through his…
His lyrics usually have references to Christian theology, his struggles with his faith and his upbringing. His discography consists of three mixtapes: 10 Day in 2012, Acid Rap in 2013 and Colouring Book in 2016.…
Yet besides the lyrics, there is something else that needs to be spoken about. If it’s not Lil Wayne acting like an ass, than it’s his fans. The fact that there are people actually defending him is saddening and what makes it even worst is that these are teenagers, which is why I stated earlier on why I’m concerned about this current generation. They do not understand the implications behind such lyrics, neither do they care. All they know is that their king needs defending and they could care less about being…
I agree with Morgan’s claims because writing and singing are outlets for people to express their emotions and issues. I feel that lyrics all have a deeper meaning and purpose to them than just the actual words being said. Morgan makes valid points and explains and addresses…
His rap songs are over flowing with rhythm and rhyme. Eminem has the talent to make just about any word rhyme. He could make something rhyme with orange if he had to. Without his strong rhythm skills, his music would be nothing. Without his strong rhythm skills, he would have no rhymes. Without his strong rhythm skills, Eminem would not be the rapper and artist he is today. Marshall Mathers is able to scrounge up any group of words, make them rhyme and sound absolutely amazing with the help of his right brained rhythm knack. It is astonishing to look at his ability to rhyme so well, and make fantastic pieces of art. Eminem is not some ordinary rapper, rhyming words like time, dime, and slime; He is rhyming more complex words, and words you would not even imagine could go…
Tupac’s music plays a big role in pop culture. His music was heard by millions of people, and have moved many. The music he wrote and the things he would rap about was the real things. He never “sugar coated” his life growing up. In his music he talks about…
Macklemore’s lyrics put words to the extensive variety of feelings individuals feel regularly. Some go further to talk about the social issues going ahead in America, or even the world over.…
1. I think Lil’ Wayne's Lyrics go too far since when he use this line about Emmett Till in his song is not being use in the correct way. This is a very disrespectful line to the memory to this little kid that he didn’t deserve the way he died. This line of the lyrics are transmitting a negative message about Emmett Till, this song should give a positive thing about this little kid since the singer is also an African American man. Also this was not the best way to express and talk about this kid since Emmett Till’s case was one of the worse cases of American history.…
While watching an episode of Oprah’s TV show which was about dealing with life difficulties experience and about how writing down your difficulties help you to heal. Tyler started writing a number of letters to himself, which later became movies and plays…
Marshall Mathers, otherwise known as Eminem, plays a great part in society. Think about what would happen if there was no Eminem? One less rapper is more than likely what you are thinking right? Well it is not just one less rapper. It would also be one less role model for those who really care about him. Eminem is an influence to the young life and even the adults. His songs are stories based on his life and things that he would have wanted to change or make different. Most of them are based on subjects that actually happened to him first hand. Some of the children growing up in this time and some adults face some of the same problems he faced. Therefore, Eminem is an influence who expresses his self in his own different style or character.…
Donald Glover or better know by his stage name childish Gambino has gone through most of his life never wanting to be labeled. Donald wants to stretch his roots as far as he can so he can experiment with different types of art. Glover is adaptable to the change in time and what people think is popular in music right now. He likes to keep himself current when he needs to be, but when he needs to lay low from the media he will do what is needed to seem invisible. Glover will definitely be an artist that won’t be damaged by time. He likes to make content that is different and relatable to others to the point where he has his fans begging for more. All of his music is inspired by previous artist and common pop culture references. Not only does…
Music Lyrics being NON-VIOLENT Rap music can be considered a style of art, and a way for the artists to express feelings through their words on paper. However, there are quite a few rap artists that get criticized for their lyrics. In my essay, I want to discuss why rappers use certain lyrics in their music and why people shouldn’t believe that it causes violence among the younger generations. People shouldn’t censor the music just because of violent, vulgar and abusive messages it promotes to the world. I believe in my own mind, that there is a reason for these types of lyrics that rap artists use and I will simply explain those reasons in this essay. Rap has been called one of the most important music forces to emerge in two decades. It’s pounding beats and staccato rhymes exploded on the streets of the urban America in the early 1980s and since have become the theme music and lyrical heart of the vibrant youth culture called hip-hop ( SIRS 1993). There are many different types of rap artist. There are some that talk about money, some talk about righteousness, and the list goes on and on. Every rap artist had their own way of expressing themselves. There are those that talk about sex, drugs, and violence who receive the negative attention( SIRS 1993). People, think this so- called gangster rap is a bad influence on children in the world and that it promotes violence and that it also is abusive to women. Delores Tucker, head of national congress of black women has been among those pressuring different record companies to stop distributing gangster rap music. There were other significant names that participated in this action. Names like Senate Majority leader Bob dole, and former education Secretary William J. Bennett(Surveys, pg. 1). There are some rap artists that have been openly criticized for their lyrics. Rappers like Lil Kim, Too Short, Snoop Doggy Dogg, and a member from “Too Live Crew,” named Luke Skywalker. These rap artists in the past have been…
He once stated, “People are used to music that justifies street culture but something that's not touched on is why these kids act the way they act, live the way they live.” (Lamar [2]) His message being that the rap that glorifies parties and drugs is what cause kids to act in the way that they do, following the poor examples laid out by some of these rappers. Kendrick has made it clear that he wants a better future for our youth and uses his songs to spread awareness and educate people about our legal systems the problems many face because of…
