Prime vs Tron From my perspective, Optimus Prime best resembles Beowulf’s character. Beowulf was a strong leader of all the Geats and strove to prevail against all evil. He sacrificed his life on several occasions to protect his people and prevail against any villainous creature. Like Beowulf, Optimus Prime is the leader of all Autobots. He has a strong leadership against his race for he has always shown strength even at his weakest points. To him, justice shall always triumph against evil. He strives to protect his and the human race from extinction against the Decepticons. He puts his life on the line to protect those important to him. Optimus Prime has similar traits to Beowulf therefore he is whose best to represent Beowulf’s character. When I think of the Dragon I can only think of one person to perceive his chaotic actions and that person is Megatron. In Beowulf, the Dragon is a menacing creature on a rampage to destroy everyone and everything. He has no mercy. He will destroy anyone and anything unless stopped from doing so. Megatron is the destructive leader of the Decepticons. No kind of morality exists within him. He has no care for anything or anyone. His mentality is set on ultimate power. He is set on achieving this and will destroy anything and anyone whom prevents him from doing so. Both the Dragon and Megatron are chaotic, destructive creatures who will not stop at causing total destruction unless forcibly stopped. Thus, Megatron best resembles the Dragon. In the fight of Beowulf vs the Dragon, Beowulf is yet again put up against another immortal, menacing creature, the Dragon. A slave had intruded a tower filled with treasure and had stolen a challis not knowing that the tower has the home of the Dragon. Angered by the theft, the Dragon awoken and went through the village destroying anything and everything in sight. Beowulf heard of the destruction and readied himself for

As a result of this indecency, the Dragon is awoken from his slumber and burns the Geats' lands. While Beowulf fought the Dragon on the premise of protecting his people, the Geat slave still wronged the Dragon in the first place. It was not as holy of a mission as defeating Grendel, so therefore he lost and was fatally poisoned. In summation, the Dragon was relatively innocent and represented the Christian deadly sin of Greed, whereas Grendel was clearly evil and an abomination before their God. Beowulf's reason to kill the Dragon was not as pure and holy as his motivation to kill Grendel and his mother.…

Leaders lead groups of people or organizations. Groups would not function to its full potential without the presence of a leader. Chiefs take charge of tasks at hand. Ships do not reach their destinations without captains. Kingdoms do not excel without kings. Beowulf demonstrates real leadership. He shows strong attributes of a great leader such as kindness, loyalty and courage.…

Indiana Jones is most like the epic hero Odysseus of The Odyssey. The four epic heroes we have studied in class are completely different in the way that they go about their journeys and trials. Though, despite these drastic differences, all share at least one character trait with Indiana Jones, whether it be a search for balance between good and evil, a drive to finish what has been started, a more human nature, or meeting opposition along the way. However, it is Odysseus that most closely resembles Jones in both character and motivation.…

Beowulf eventually becomes king and is growing old when a dragon attacks. The dragon attacks to seek vengeance because of the disturbance of his hoard of treasure. The dragon kills many in the kingdom which angers Beowulf and he is forced to seek vengeance even though his old age. This battle Beowulf is weary of due to his old age and the power of his enemy but still seeks vengeance for his people due to honor. This shows in Anglo-Saxon culture that risking your life for the greater good of the kingdom and for vengeance was rather common and endorsed for the pride of the individual and the kingdom they were a part of. In this battle Beowulf gets hurt pretty badly when the dragon bites him and needs help from his followers he brought along. Only one remains while the others flee and the two end up killing the dragon. Beowulf dies and he doesn't have any heirs to the throne so passes it onto his only follower who remained. This shows the importance of loyalty in Anglo-Saxon culture because he was the only follower to remain while the others fled which then rewarded him with becoming king while the others would never be allowed back in the kingdom for abandoning their…

Beowulf even defeated a dragon in his old age now that portrays power. Finally, Sir Gawain from Sir Gawain and the green knight. This depicts a knight who took a challenge that at face value, seemed like an easy win but, when the impossible became possible he did not waver. This quote that can be used to explain the courage it took for him to win at his challenge,” Sir Gawain laid hold is axe and lifted it high into the air…and then swiftly he slashed the naked neck.”(Pearl poet 161).To be able to do that without any hesitation requires intense courage sure what happened after that separates the men from the Hero’s. The person who had his head liberated from his shoulders got up picked up his head and walked up to do the same to Sir Gawain but he did not blink and through his courage his finished the challenge triumphant. Without the ideas of heroism these characters be it there will, power, or courage would have been extremely different if the even existed at…

The Old English poem, Beowulf, is arguably the first writings that highlights the battle between man and dragon and portray a Scandinavian warrior who is destine to rule a kingdom. The age-old question of fighting for glory or fighting for riches is tested, as the story begins with a young warrior who battles his way to become king and in the end give his life for his kingdom. After a successful reign as king, the story leads the hero to a final battle with the fantastic dragon. The question, that has been put before the readers is one of motive for Beowulf’s battle of the dragon. Time period was one of the major differences dividing these two stories. Indiana Jones takes place in the early nineteen hundreds, probably about 1920. He has a female companion that he seems to always be rescuing. He fought all of the crazy, evil men with his bare hands and a whip. He was a courageous middle-aged man, but with all of his attributes he was never out seeking fights, they just always seemed to find him. Beowulf's era was a mere one thousand years ago. He sought out evilness in hopes to destroy it and become a hero. He was a great war paragon hoping to make a name for himself. He seemed to not have a fear in the world, which made him a great person for the job of destroying the evil monster and his mother. I think pride might have caused him to lose against the dragon though, because he was thinking he was undefeatable. He fought bare handed, because in his days they didn't possess weapons like guns and also he wanted to prove to everyone that he was as strong without the help of "swords and stones."…

It had been fifty years after Beowulf had defeated Grendel and his mother. Beowulf had returned home to his homeland and became king there and his rule was successful. There was a dragon that lived near by to Beowulf’s kingdom, which guarded old treasure. A thief stole a goblet from him and awakened him, and the dragon then went on a revengeful killing spree. “The dragon began to belch out flames/ and burn bright homesteads; there was a hot glow/ that scared everyone, for the vile sky-winger/ would leave nothing alive in his wake.” (l. 2312-2315) The dragon held onto this treasure, which is useless now, so long that he was able to know exactly what was gone and he must have had it back. The dragon represents greed and selfishness. The dragon began to slay people because of his missing goblet. When Beowulf heard about the dragon, he decided to do something about it immediately, as a good king should. During the battle between Beowulf and the dragon, both parties were fatally wounded. The dragon fought to the death to protect “his” treasure that he found, while Beowulf fought to protect “his” people. The dragon’s greed and selfishness had taken over his life and his lifestyle, which became the death of me. It can also be seen that Beowulf had allowed greed to overcome him, and that being the death of him also. He wanted the dragon’s treasure for his people, and his last wish was to see the treasure that he…

A thief stole from the treasure in which the dragon was guarding. Once the dragon noticed something was missing, he went on a riot trying to find the missing item (leading to disturbance amongst the people). Beowulf is motivated by his pride and the warrior’s code (which he knows he cannot break). He continues to brag about his accomplishments and states that he is going to fight the dragon for the glory of winning. Additionally, Beowulf chose to fight the dragon to defend himself and the people of his castle (because the dragon burned it down). As Beowulf is now much older and wiser, he is more cautious when it comes to preparing for battle. Despite his age, Beowulf still chose to fight to keep his pride. He is accompanied by his men, but commands them to remain outside (still wanting to gain glory and keep his reputation). In preparation, he chooses to wear his armour and helmet, along with a sword. Since the dragon can breathe fire, he orders armour made from iron rather than wood to remain safe. One can conclude that Beowulf is much more prepared to fight the dragon than when he fought Grendel and Grendel’s mother. In conclusion, Beowulf's sword fails for the first time as he is nearing defeat. Wiglaf comes to his rescue and Beowulf and him, together, attempt to defeat the dragon. The dragon bites Beowulf in the neck, but Wiglaf lunges forward and stabs him in the stomach. Beowulf has just enough power to stab the dragon in his side, killing him. Soon after, Beowulf dies from the poison of the dragon…
