becoming a mother
Becoming a mother Becoming a mother completely changed my life. When I say “changed”, I don’t mean I had to make a couple of adjustments. I mean that it completely flipped my world upside down into something so different to what it was before. I was an outgoing person. I loved going to parties, have fun, and never be home. I really never cared about anything. I guess I was just an irresponsible and immature, like a typical teenager. When I found out I was pregnant I was only 18 years old. I was a junior in high school therefore I stated getting worried more about finishing high school and graduating. I was also scared of my mom, I had no clue how to tell her. At the end this made me get closer to my mom and realized how important she was to me. I realized it wasn’t about me anymore I had to think about my son and started to see things in a different way.
October 17, 2012 was the big day! I had to get induced because it was time but my baby wasn’t ready yet. I was slowly dying from the contractions. It was a discomfort or a dull ache on my back and lower abdomen along with a strong pressure on my pelvis. I remember I started crying and stared being mean to everyone, especially my boyfriend. It was really the worst pain a human being can go through. Suddenly I saw my nurse coming in to check on me, I told her

“please get me the epidural”. Few minutes after the doctor came with the epidural. Even though I hate needles I didn’t care that time. The anesthesiologist turned me on the side, exposing the open back of my hospital gown. Then he cleaned my spine with a cold alcohol swab. With a regular needle, he injected a local anesthetic in just the right spot. This was truly the only part that hurt. Once the numbing kicked in, I had to lie completely still. A nurse stood at my side and held my hands for reassurance. I felt the pressure of the metal cannula push into my spine. I could sense the

I knew that everything would be different once I became a mother. My relationship at the time was rocky and I was contemplating leaving before I found out. With the knowledge that we were about to have a baby together, I told myself it was time to get serious and make sure I was putting in 100% before I just walked away. I buckled down and gave it my all, not for me, but for the child that deserved two parents if it could happen.…

The being pregnant part was actually really awesome. I was hungry all the time and got to eat pretty much anything and everything to my hearts content. I was always sleepy but best of all never did I get nauseous, which oh my gosh I was so happy for! You get to go to the doctor ALOT and the list of the things you can do is a short story compared to the novel that is the list of things you cant do. The very first feelings you feel of the baby moving feels like you have butterflies in your stomach and getting to hear the heart beat, now that is one of the best sounds in the world. I read What to Expect When You're Expecting like it was the bible. It tells you everything about the baby, their progress, what they look like at each stage and I was obsessed with it. At about five months that's when you get to find out the sex. That was the day I couldn't wait for. I wanted a girl so bad! I tried hard not to get my hopes up. Don't get me wrong I would love my child either way, but ever since that first day, that second line I couldn't stop thinking the word girl, girl, GIRL! I knew it, even though I told myself I didn't. My heart sank at first when the ultra sound nurse said “Do you see these three dots?” I instantly thought “okay cool its a boy, good thing I still have time to pick out a name” but as the nurse went on she said “congratulations your having a girl.” My mom who was with me just exploded into pure excitement, she had her three grandsons now the first granddaughter, and me, well I felt like I won the lottery. Picking out a name was also pretty easy seeing as how I already picked it out when I was 15, Riley, after my grandfather. I never got to meet him but I've always heard what an amazing person he was and I was in love with his name, but I had to make it its own so I decided to spell it Rylee. After that its pretty much 4 long fat months of you putting baby furniture together, buying clothes,…

At 12:30 at night on June 1, 2015, my life would soon change forever. I was pregnant with my first child and my water had just broken. My mom rushed me to the hospital where I was immediately put in a private room, in the hospital bed where I was about to deliver my first child, a son. He came so quickly (5 & 1/2 hours in total) and I had requested no pain medications and turned it down on several occasions as the medical staff pleaded with me to use it. The pain began to become more and more unbearable, so much so that I honestly felt paralyzed from my waist down. My body was taking over to my surprise and I was just there with my legs in stirrups. They seemed immovable and with the pains coming faster, it is as if they stopped receiving any of the signals my brain was sending to them.…

It was almost 5am on July 17, 1996, when I was rushed to the hospital. I was balled up in the back seat of my mother in laws car, biting down on a towel because the pain was so unbearable. I heard him say “it’s ok baby… ” just as another jolt of pain came. As his voice faded I could feel him rubbing my back, and I tried my best to listen to his voice and forget the pain. It was impossible though, the baby was coming and there was no turning back now.…

My mother and sisters tried to tell me that parenthood would change my life and that it would be hard, but I didn’t know how hard or how my life was about to change. When everybody at the grocery store was staring at me because my son was throwing one of temper tantrums or I had been taking care of a feverish, vomiting baby all night long it was hard to remember that being a parent was a gift. But then I’d see a sleeping, beautiful baby or my son would draw a picture of a giant, smiling, stick-figure mom with a red crayon heart, and then I would remember. I have a…

I can still remember the day the doctors told me I was pregnant. That immediate sense of fear swallowed me whole and time seemed to stand still. It was not until a couple of months later that I realized there was no changing the situation and that I needed to make the very best of it. Finding out I was pregnant started out as a very scary experience but ultimately was one of the most positive and rewarding experiences I have ever endured. After the fear settled a little bit I was able to really start thinking about my life and what I needed to change. Up until that day at the doctors I was living day by day doing what I needed to do for me and no one else. I had no job, I was living with my parents and my only source of excitement came from the local bar rooms late at night. I knew things needed to change and I set out on a mission to make that change happen. Alone and afraid I was able to swallow my pride and ask my family for help and the guidance to get my life back on track before this baby entered our world. All through my pregnancy I knew I loved my unborn son more than I have ever loved anything in this world. I knew that my life was no longer mine…

My grandma told me that if they worsened, she would take me to the hospital. Shortly thereafter about 5 minutes later, the contractions worsened and my cousin picked us up to go to the hospital. I was already dilated to 5 centimeters when I was admitted. The doctor gave me an epidural which really helped, but I was so afraid to birth naturally that the doctors gave me an emergency c-section. I was awake during the delivery and remember that when they cut me open it felt really weird and numb. When my baby was born he looked like his dad. Dray came to the hospital, he was so happy as was my family. Soon after, I kicked everyone out so I could get some rest. I named my son, Tyrinn.…

    Young Motherhood

Life throws a curve ball. Is it an obligation to tackle it or duck and ignore it? I learned at an early age that being a young mother was not just a job but a chance to become a responsible young adult. Being a mother at a young age has its perks and its downfalls. Already being a statistic as a young mother before marriage, women are expected to fail by the majority of society. Some people think a baby is a burden on a young person's life, but I believe a baby is God's opinion that life should go on. However, having a child at an early age can have a huge impact on a person’s future either positively or negatively depending upon the choices you make.…
