BEH225 Week 5
Psychodynamic, Humanistic, Trait and Social learning are the four main theories of personality that are commonly studied today. These four theories are mostly used in assessment tests that we use. As we know, a person’s personality is one of the main traits that separate us from one another. There are no two people with the same personalities in the world. Our experiences as we get older is said to continue to affect how our personalities evolve and change as the time goes by. The psychodynamic theory is a psychological approach where the personality assessment is based on measuring the unconscious thought, feelings, and the human motives. Using the interview methods helps assess a person with projective tests and one on one interviews. Most information gathered from these tests and interviews are used for researches, education, etc. The psychodynamic theory is also used to measure conflicts and represses problems from the early life (Morris & Maisto, 2010). Using the objective test and the personal interviews to asses each individual is an example of the approaches used with humanistic theory. This theory is believed that an individual’s personality thrives towards personal growth and higher level of functioning (Morris & Maisto, 2010). The third theory is the trait theory, which is thought to be related to permanent dispositions in each person. The trait theory is believed to support that every individual has their own characteristics that sets us apart. Finally, the fourth theory is the Social learning theory. This theory is believed to thrive from our past reinforcement and punishment. After taking the personality test, my results were as followed:
Extroverted (E) 62.86% Introverted (I) 37.14%
Sensing (S) 62.5% Intuitive (N) 37.5%
Feeling (F) 51.43% Thinking (T) 48.57%
Judging (J) 62.16% Perceiving (P) 37.84%

Personality is an individual’s unique and relatively consistent patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving. Learning about personality helps us to understand how and why people act the way they do. There are four perspectives of personality: psychoanalytic perspective, humanistic perspective, social cognitive perspective and trait perspective. The psychoanalytic emphasizes the importance of unconscious mental processes and the influence of early childhood experience. The humanistic perspective represents an optimistic look at human nature, emphasizing the self and the fulfillment of the person’s unique potential. The social cognitive perspective…

Each tenet is different from the other but also entwined in the whole of the personality. The tenets each have their own relation to the individual personality; however, they are also relational to one another and work together to make up the whole personality. In order to be psychologically healthy, certain progress needs met under each foundational tenet.…

The reason behind each person’s behavior is through their qualities and characteristics that make them who they are. This combination of qualities and characteristics is called personality. Personality forms each person’s notable disposition or character. The science of psychology has different theories on how personality is measured in each person. The measurement of personality can be explained through multiple theories from different psychologists named Freud, Jung, Rodgers, and Maslow.
