Being A Cis-Gendered Woman
Women are the most disproportionate group in the world . Knowing that is tough, but living it is harder. I have some privilege in society being a cis-gendered woman but I'm still at a disadvantage. Growing up, I had a smart mouth; I was always questioning things and ‘talking back’ as any child does. When I was in third grade, just moved into a new school being the little smart child I was answering the teacher’s questions just like how I did at my old school. There was another little girl who was shy (and so adorable!) who transferred just around the same time I did. Anyway, the teacher loved me, and I loved me too! However, after a few weeks for some reason I couldn't pinpoint exactly why I wasn't getting as much friends as the other new …show more content…
It went a little like this: “So what do you think about that new girl?” Asks boy number one. “She's really nice and cute!” Replies boy number two. “EWW! YOU LIKE THE LOUD NERD!” Screeches boy number one. “NO I DON’T SHE’S WEIRD, I MEAN THE OTHER GIRL!” Defends boy number two. I don't quite remember exactly how I reacted, but all I remember was being disappointed and sad that no one had a crush on me. What was so wrong with me that no one thought I was cute? I ended up telling the teacher, and she dismissed it as “Boys will be boys” but I still didn't understand. Not until now do I realize the lesson those rude boys tried to teach me. In society, women are expected to sit back, shut up and look pretty. We are supposed to be pure, graceful, demure, not opinionated or human. We aren't allowed that. That situation taught me that the world will never take me seriously, even when I have the evidence, the credentials, the degree, the brains to prove that I'm right; Society will always prefer a man to do the job. I will just be expected to perform exhausting bouts of femininity just to prove that I'm worthy of being treated like a human

Psychological androgyny is when one’s personality traits are capable of being two different things at once. For example, one who is aggressive is also nurturant at the same time no matter the gender. Advantages of this area is that one can use many traits to achieve a desire or talent. They can pool in more traits than one who is not androgyny. They may have higher self esteem and more stable. They may also have more confidence about stressful areas and…

Now a lot of the interviewees were females (approximately 49.7% of them were , 48.1% being men and 2.2% preferring not to say). Now a lot of the females said that when stereotyped , they were stereotyped about a huge issue in America, and that is that women are not superior to men. Also another huge one I seen was that they are always the “smart and responsible” one in their families, and they always have to make the right decisions. I feel that as a man, when I am being told I'm not superior it does drag me down and my performance could suffer. It would also hurt you as a…

Growing up, I was unalike from other kids, I was "imaginative". During class, I would always by myself, writing bizarre stories with preposterous characters and with an unpredictable plot, while the other kids were playing with their friends. Many of my classmates would be entertained by loony stories, while other kids thought that I was just some lonely nitwit writing absurd stories to make up for not having any friends. In that year I was relocated to a different school, which I didn't want to go because I didn't have any friends at the school, I was currently attending and it would be much more difficult to make new friends. In the following year, I was still that shy girl in the back of the classroom not interacting with anybody, but it…

Growing up, my parents followed the stereotypical gender roles for my brother and I. From the moment we were born he was put in blue and I was put in pink. He was “a little ladies man” whereas I was “going to make some man real happy one day.” My parent’s didn’t mean any harm, they didn’t know any better because they were raised the same way; however, this type of thinking is what causes inequality between the genders in society. In Judith Lorber’s article The Social Construction of Gender she states, “Once a child’s gender is evident, others treat those in one gender differently from those in the other, and the children respond to the different treatment by feeling different and behaving differently” (Kirk 65). In simpler terms, since the…

It has always been interesting to me to see how people and most especially professionals react when that is predominantly populated by one gender and instead of both this include the way interacts in the workplace with a person of an opposite gender. There are two areas within communication that really got my attention; they are: how does your gender identity affect you as an asset to an organization and is one gender effectiveness better than the other or is inferiority complex that has been passed down through times.…
