Being Wrong Essay

The Different Perspectives of Being Wrong What is our evidence to our beliefs? How are we certain what we believe to be true without evidence and how do you determine if the evidence is accurate? Many of us never take the time to think about questions like those. As I read, Catherine Schulz book Being Wrong, I started to question my own beliefs. Coming from a country like Ethiopia, religion was a big part of my life. People in Ethiopia used religion as the get away from their struggles and I was definitely one of them until I was exposed to the western world. As a young kid I was exposed to many cultures. I was born in a small village in Ethiopia. My family was Muslim but my parents weren’t your typical religious people in the village.
The country is known for being one of the poorest countries. Growing up I had never encountered technology that was as sophisticated as a television. I had never seen a movie before. When I watched the movie The Passion of Christ, I was crying because I believed the movie to be real. To watch a person go through such events made it really easy to believe in it. Now my world was flipped upside down. I didn’t know which religion to go by. I could not argue with what I just saw with my own eyes. I was then given a Bible to read; six months later I was a hardcore Christian. I had to readopt to a new way of living. Luckily I was young so it was not too difficult to change my ways. The hard part was trying to tell my family why I wanted to change my religion. As you can imagine, my family thought I went crazy and even suggested I was possessed by the devil. I could go on about how I feel about their way of thinking but I’m simply going to say I have no right to judge them and say my way is right and their way is wrong. Thanks to Schulz I can simply say I could be wrong and move on. I changed my views because of technology but my family did not have the access to this kind of technology and even if they did the chances of them believing in it are
