Narrative Essay On My Identity

Everyone has their own unique identity that does not connect with someone else’s, whether it be culturally, religiously, ethnically, sexually, or any type of background. My parents’ identities are incomprehensible to me, because I do not experience life the same way they did, and I did not grow up in the same situations in which they did. My cultural identity is inherited from my parents in a way that does not particularly connect with them--that is, it is inherited from their sense of self identity and capability to recognize who they are as people. While my my mom may associate herself as one way, my dad may associate himself as another, and I may see myself as nothing comparable to their identities. The stories I know about their childhood are too meager to formulate my idea of their identity. Because I am so clueless as to what their identities are, I can easily conclude that my identity is unique and it only exposes who I am as a person, not who my parents are. Even though their early life is similar to my life, I do not believe that it is demonstrative of their identities as a whole. Therefore, I will continue the discussion by evaluating who I identify myself as. One of the first steps of finding one’s cultural identity is analyzing your family’s background. Since a majority of my family grew up or lives in Florida, and I did as well, I can say that I am a native Floridian. Also, most of my family grew up as or is Christian, and I can say that I am as well. My parents grew up in a small town, and I did as well.
