Belief systems
People make history and change history. The differences in beliefs and the achievement of many people have changed global history and will continue to change global history. Beliefs and achievements have proven to have both positive and negative effecs on societies. Toussant Louverture and King Hammurabi are two very important men in history who illuminate how beliefs and achievements change history for good. Toussant Louverture, although born a slave, rose to become a liberator and leader of Haiti. He accomplished this by taking advantage of wars between the powerful countries that occupied his homeland. Toussant was responsible for the slave revolts which lead Haiti to become its own independent country from Spanish rule. Toussant had organized his self-trained army to fight against the whites on the island of Haiti. Before the war, Toussant wrote a well-educated request for freedom rather than demanding war straight away, after this failed attempt Toussant still saw his people being treated brutally and that is when war had been declared. Toussaint’s victory of being able to make Haiti independent was a great accomplishment which began a ripple effect for many enslaved countries during this time .Today Toussant is known as the black Napoleon, he has done something that up to this day cannot be emulated. Emperor Hammurabi is another crucial element in global history. Hammurabi is known for two very important things in the world today which is written language as well as laws. Hammurabi invented the Code of Hammurabi which was a set of law written is the first written language known to the world, cuneiform, this set of laws set order in Hammurabi’s empire. These laws were indeed harsh but they established a very obedient society during this time. Hammurabi’s code promoted the message, “an eye for an eye”, this meant that no crime went unpunished. Hammurabi’s code would later on be the basics of the many different governing systems. People make history
