Why Is Hammurabi Too Harsh
The Code of Hammurabi Hammurabi was a ruthless leader who killed and hurt hundreds of people for their mistakes. Hammurabi was a powerful king in a small city state called Babylon which was the capital of the kingdom of Babylonia. Hammurabi took power in 1792 B.C. for 42 years and had brutal rules with lots of power. Hammurabi´s code is not just because the laws that he has made are too harsh,and why should diffrent people get punished more than others, finally Hammurabi should not have that much power. I think that Hammurabi´s code is too harsh. The reason I think this is because why should a builder die because they built a weak house and the person inside died,why should someone lose their hands for stealing, should a slave's ear get
chopped off for slapping a noble man.Hammurabi could have had diffrent punishments,ones that don't kill people for tiny mistakes.. But instead Hammurabi kills them or chop their hands off. This is why I believe these punishments are too harsh. Hammurabi's code was unfair.Hammurabi´s code is unfair because he made it so slaves and women were punished more than men and nobleman.Does this mean that Hammurabi favored men and nobleman more than slaves and women? Should a slave loose an ear for slapping a noble man.If a man kills a daughter the man will pay the women ten shekels but if the man's son died from the women the the woman's daughter will be put to death. All these people should be punished the same,it should not matter how important they are or if their a male of a female.This is why I believe Hammurabi's code was unfair. And finally,why should Hammurabi have that much power? Why should Hammurabi have the power to decides who lives and who dies? Since Hammurabi thinks differently about poor people or women that does not give him the right to kill them. And the people fear Hammurabi for what he is capable of doing to them.The people need a king who is fair and responsible to everyone. That is why I think Hammurabi does not deserve that power.
