a loan to plant crops and a storm washes them away then the man does not have to pay the creditor back for the next year. This is unjust because although it is not the mans fault that the storm came, there are precautions that he could have taken. Also if the creditor needs the money in a certain point in that next year he is unable to get it because of this rule. Lastly, Hammurabi’s code was unjust because of the personal injury laws. Law 199 states that that if a man knocks out the eye of a slave then he must pay two shekels of silver. Law 196 states that If he knocks out the eye of a free man, then he must knock out his own eye. This is unjust because slaves are humans and all humans should be treated equal. Also you shouldn’t put a price on a person or a body part.
Hammurabi’s code was unjust because of the family law, property law, and the personal injury law. As said before Hammurabi was the ruler of Babylon for 42 years and had 282 laws that he was thought to have gotten from the god of justice Shamash. Also, one of his rules was that no future ruler could change his laws or else there would be a curse put on him, his family, his troops, his warriors, and his subjects. Hammurabi failed to remember was that times change. If Hammurabi really wanted to protect the people of Babylon then why would he curse them too?
