Believing In The Story 'The People Could Fly'
Have you ever heard of the common saying “seeing is believing.” For the people who don’t know this common saying, it means that you have to see what happen to believe what has happen. I truly believe this common saying is true. This is because most people in this world would tell a lie. To know that they aren’t pulling your leg, you need to see it to believe that it happens. For example, in the story “The People Could Fly,” people didn’t know that the African can fly, until they saw them fly away. Another example is in the story “Sorry, Wrong Number,” it told us how the operator and the police didn’t trust Mrs. Stevenson that a murder is about to occur. Mrs. Stevenson told them that they need to see it to believe it that a murder is about to …show more content…
Secondly, people have to really see it themselves to know that it really happens because they can be telling the truth or they can get tricky. For example, in the story “Sorry, Wrong Number.” The operator and the police didn’t believe that a murder is about to happen to Mrs. Stevenson, but they need to see to believe that Mrs. Stevenson is about to be murdered. As stated in the story “It was supposed to be Murray Hill 4-0098, but it wasn’t. Some wires must have crossed—I was cut into a wrong number. And I’ve just heard the most dreadful thing—a—a murder—and (imperiously) you’ll simply have to retrace that call at once, Operator.” In this passage, it means that Mrs. Stevenson told the operator to trace that call and that they need to see to believe that the crime is about to occur. In other word, other people who might disagree with this claim might stated from the passage “The People Could Fly” it states “The slaves who could not fly told about the people who could fly to their children.” In this statement it means that the children trust their parent or grandparent that the some African could fly. I reject this claim because the children can be different from the other. This means that some children believe their parent and some don’t. That also means that the children want to see the historical event to believe it. In conclusion seeing is believing. This is because you cannot trust everyone in

Its human nature to want to see people be deceived or tricked. Or visa versa being people who want to actually help the people from being tricked or deceived, We as people want to know what that person is going to do and how it plays out for them but only in the story not in real life. We do not have to interact in order to be weary of these type of people. We like to hear the thrill of the story but definitely do not want to have to actually interfere with them. The other group of people in the visible world is the believers. They are blind followers. They believe what they are told without questioning it or giving what they are told a second thought. The state motto for Missouri, USA, is “show me.” The people there are reluctant to believe in anything that they do not see with their own eyes. In essence, “seeing is believing.” Knowledge is captured through our sense perceptions. However, sometimes our senses are flawed, leading to “incorrect” perceptions of certain things. This being so, we are frequently reminded to “never trust our own eyes.” So then, which one of these phrases is most helpful in building an understanding of our world? Should we believe what we see or not trust our own eyes?…
