goods, services or make investments the host country profits. Our sudden and continually growing advancements in technology are mainly due to the many highly educated immigrants who have been crucial for innovation. These highly intelligent individuals have the capacity to design and develop new forms of innovative technology. Most host countries will often look for individuals such as scientists and engineers from all around the world to help them in modernizing their country. These highly intelligent individuals have the capacity to design and develop new forms of innovative technology According to the article by Darrell M. West titled the cost and benefits of immigration “highly educated immigrants account for about 70% of innovation within the U.S” (West, Darrell M, 2011). These highly educated individuals can assist in educating the locals on specific skills thus resulting in higher productivity for the industry. On account of the growing population due to immigration there is a need for more public amenities and services resulting in the host country to continuously grow and develop newer and newer services for their citizens.
Similar to all other citizens immigrants also have to pay taxes which again helps with the economic growth of the host country. In the article Reaping the Economic Benefits of Immigration “in the last ten years there was a 47% increase in the workforce due to immigrants in the U.S and 70% in Europe” (Reaping the Economic Benefits of Immigration, 2008). Economically immigration has a profound effect on our society, opening up our borders for immigrants allows for the host country to achieve increased economic growth.
Lastly one of the most important benefits of immigration is the diversity and multiculturalism that surrounds it. When immigrants settle into the host country they often struggle to fit in, so as a form of feeling more comfortable they bring with them the traditions and culture from their homeland. Immigrants help to diversify the host country in many ways such as the introduction to a wide variety of cuisines, traditions, celebrations and clothing. One of the most diverse and multicultural countries is Canada. Canadians have used the term "multiculturalism" both descriptively and normatively. In the first sense "multiculturalism" is a description of the many different religious traditions and cultural influences that in their unity and coexistence in Canada make up Canadian culture. Canada recognizes the potential of all Canadians, encouraging them to integrate into their society and take an active part in its social, cultural, economic and political affairs.
Canada is a nation that sees cultural diversity as something to celebrate. In our modern society diversity is good aspect within a country on account of it allows the host country to experience different customs outside of what they are normally used to. The culture of these foreign individuals becomes so widespread that many school boards have made teaching their students about the culture of other countries apart of the curriculum. The diversity which immigration has brought upon the host country creates a sense pf curiosity
and exposes the locals to different people and cultures as a result educating individuals on the customs of other countries. Diversity in society brings with a sense of richness and variety it helps open up a variety of different methods for our daily lives such as new things to cook, new music to listen to, new holidays and traditions to follow and much more. Today in Canada for example diversity is constantly growing and as a result it I return teaches our youth about all the different types of people out in the world and provides them with a cultural awareness, because without it we have discrimination, racism and prejudice and that is not a desirable society for anyone. When people educate themselves about the different ways of life it helps fix the divide between ethnicities and connects everyone together as one nation. Immigrants have obviously played a crucial role in shaping the cultural landscape of our society, having brought with them their beliefs from their home country. These individuals then share their experiences with their children hoping they learn to become accepting of both their heritage and the new culture of the host country in which they have begun their new lives. Immigration has also opened our eyes to new forms of creativity such as music, art and celebrations such as Mardi gras or St.Patricksday. Immigration is also beneficial on account of it leads to more diverse family structures, when immigrant men or women settle in the host country and meet someone who is a local to the country then have children they are being represented as culturally accepting, this formation is called the “melting pot”, a variety of elements melting together to make one common culture. As a result the host country becomes more tolerant and open minded about other cultures. Immigration brings a variety of beliefs, values and standards enabling our society to co-exist with one another. This allows the host country and the immigrants to adopt positive aspects of the others culture to better society as a whole. Overall culturally immigration brings people from all different parts of the world as a result it brings diversity to our society and helps build a multicultural society in which we learn new customs and traditions that broaden our horizons and allow us to become more enriched with culture, thus gaining a new sense of understanding on how to interpret the world and people around us.
