Problem:
High School students in the
Tracy Unified School District are lacking activity and school lunches are health harming which leads to children becoming more obese since students are only required to take 2 years of PE and they
Solution:
We should open up the
gyms and fields during lunch(just like the library is open for everyone) and try to include healthier lunches for all students.
Current Situation
Article 1: In the article “Attacking the obesity
epidemic by 1st figuring out its cause” by Jane
E.Brody ,she claims that the food and beverage industries are trying to fatten us up by underestimating our bodys’ natural abilities to burn calories
Article 2: In the article “Bad Food? Tax It, and
Subsidize Vegetables” by Mark Bittman he claims that we should tax unhealthy foods such as soda and french fries rather than subsidize them. We should instead subsidize the “good for you” healthy food like veggies.
Article 3: In the article “No lunch left
behind” by Alice Waters and Katrina
Heron, they claim that the government should give money to healthy organic food instead of wasting money to finance the National School lunch problem which would keep buying cheap, health-harming foods. “Recess Before Lunch Can Mean Happier, Healthier Kids” http://www.educationworld.com/a_admin/admin/admin389.shtml "We got the idea [of recess before lunch] from
the school nurse who had been to a conference," said principal Dr. Sarah Hartley.
"It gets very hot here, and the kids were eating and then playing in the heat. The nurse was reporting a lot of headaches and stomachaches after lunch."

Kristy claims that recess before lunch has many
benefits including: healthy digestion, more nutrition and less waste, a calmer cafeteria, and students are ready
