Benjamin Franklin: The Model American Hero

And that is who I’ll be talking about. Unlike many heroes Benjamin Franklin was very human he may not have commanded an army but he stands out from history for another reason. He was amiable entertaining and loved to try out new things. The classic invention associated with Benjamin Franklin is the lightning rod, but he also invented many other useful things such as, the Franklin stove which heated houses more efficiently and bifocal lenses which he invented when he got tired of switching glasses every time he went outside or wanted to read. He was involved in the four documents that are considered possibly the most important in American history, the Declaration of Independence, the treaty of alliance, the treaty of Paris, and the U.S. Constitution. He helped write Constitution and the Declaration of Independence and while at the constitutional convention he made a formal motion toward prayer before each meeting. He was also an ambassador for America in England. One day in seventeen seventy four while he was in England he was called before the British government to explain his allegiance to America. For two hours he silently stood before the council, white with anger, he was shouted at, laughed at, insulted, and condemned. At this point Benjamin gave up on peaceful relations with England and went home where he discovered his country was already at war. He was then sent to France as an ambassador, however he was seventy years old the long ocean voyage was hard on him and when he arrived he looked weak and crumpled, not the tall strong man the French had expected, but he discovered that the French liked him that way and he became an instant
