Bennis Leadership Style Analysis
My picture of leadership is servanthood, having a vision, integrity, and compassion; putting the needs of others at the center of my decisions. Bennis (1989) supports the perspective that states leading is not merely showing the way or issuing orders, it is a need to have experienced and grown through following learning to be dedicated, observant, capable or working with and learning from others, never servile, but always truthful.
The biggest difference between my perspective of leadership and management is the way leaders drive the people who work or follow them, and that sets the trend for most other aspects of what leaders do. Whereas managers tell people what to do. I view management style as transactional, and leadership style as transformational.

My identity and worldview of leadership are charismatic, and transformational style. From experience, ordering people what to do does not inspire them to follow you. You have to engage them, showing how following you will lead them to their hearts' desire. Bennis also states that leaders with a stronger charisma find it easier to attract people to their cause. As a part of persuasion a leader typically promise transformational benefits, such that their members will not just receive extrinsic rewards but will somehow become better

    Leadership and management should essentially come together. They are not in fact similar but tend to create the same complimentary effect upon each other. The two concepts should not be separated as it may not prove worthy in solving a particular problem. Management and leadership, both have different understanding of opinions by people. Leadership retains a larger scope whereas management comes within a confined scope.     Being well-liked is essential for a leader in order to creating a movement for reaching desired results. One well-liked speaker that I can recall that has a great deal of charisma and is currently having success in moving his audience is President Barrack Obama.     What is leadership? Leadership is having the ability to give guidance to those that will follow. Those that follow will help to complete the mission. Leadership is an immature science and the body of knowledge in the field has developed through a series of fits and starts. Leadership is a soft science, just as anthropology, sociology and psychology. It can not be proven exactly what it is. Leadership is an art, the skillful application of leadership behaviors beyond techniques is much the same as the skillful application of brushstrokes by a master painter. Leadership is both rational and emotional. It involves both sides of human experience. It includes actions and influences based on reason and logic as well those based on inspiration and passion. Leadership is a social process shared among all members of a group. Leadership development comes through experience. We all learn from our different experiences. Whether positive or negative, they are our tools for growth and development. What is management? Management is a position of authority. Management says what need to get done and supplies the material to get it done. Management tends to be the more educated than the experienced. Managers can be trained to hold a position. Management is a position of leadership. Can leadership and management be the same? Leadership and management are not the same. Anyone can be a manager and not have any followers. Being able to manage is knowing the aspects of a mission. A leader knows the aspects, has the knowledge and the skills to accomplish the mission.
