18 September 2013 Beowulf In the epic poem of Beowulf, Beowulf showed loyalty, bravery, and passion by killing Grendel, Grendel’s Mother, and the mighty Dragon. Beowulf showed many characteristics during his fights and how he acted towards his followers in his kingdom. He was the greatest Anglo-Saxon warrior. Beowulf showed bravery during each of his fights because no matter how severe the cost could come out to be he went out to slay any monster that brought horror to his citizens and to the people. The people of his kingdom were afraid of Grendel; therefore, he stayed and played loud music to bring the beast around to slay the demon that threatened the citizens. His passion came when Grendel’s Mother came to seize the arm of Grendel from the wall where it was hung. Did Beowulf hesitate to go after Grendel’s Mother? No, his passion to protect the people of his kingdom led him to her lair and he finally killed her. The loyalty aspect of Beowulf came into effect when Beowulf’s closest friend Wiglaf and him went to slay the Dragon that was terrorizing his now 50 year old rule over the kingdom. He did not want Wiglaf to be harmed by the Dragon so he severely damaged the Dragon; afterwards the Dragon bit Beowulf and ultimately led to the death of the great warrior. He was given a warrior’s funeral and buried with the treasure the great Dragon was protecting for so long.
