Beowulf: The Anglo-Saxon Epic Hero

Anglo-Saxon Epic Poem was a story of a great warrior who risked his life for others to keep theirs. The name of this great warrior is Beowulf, but this was not an average warrior. Beowulf is one of the greatest epic heroes who has ever ruled over Geatland. Beowulf is a loyal king to his people and always puts his people before himself. Beowulf had what all kings wished for which was courage, leadership, and strength. First, Beowulf was not just a strong minded hero but an physically strong one also. Beowulf was able to bend a 20foot tall beast hand backwards with just his bear hands. The name of the beast is Grendel who later stated “nowhere on earth had he met a man whose hands were harder” (33). Bending back the hand of a beast twice his size demonstrates how powerful Beowulf was compared to others. Beowulf without his possession of his strength
There is not any epic hero that do not have great leadership. Beowulf never lend any of his men into dangers way. Beowulf always asked to conquer a quest only by his self “grant me lord and protector of this noble place a single request” (31). Beowulf did not ask any of his soldiers to do more fighting than he had to be responsible for. Great leaders are able to fight and accomplish their own wars. Furthermore, every bone that Beowulf had in his body was filled of courage. When Beowulf defeated Grendel then was notified of Grendels mom attacks. Beowulf quickly retaliated to the disturbance in Geatland “ he leaped into the lake, would not wait for anyone” (40). Beowulf showed much courage taking on a quest so fast just weeks after fighting in a previous battle with Grendel. In conclusion, Beowulf is by far one of the best warriors that has fought against evil in the 1000BC. Beowulf was being praised by young men, women, and even men that was of his age.
