The candidate I chose for president was Bernie Sanders a Democratic candidate for President of the United States. As mayor of Burlington, Bernie’s leadership helped transform Burlington into one of the most exciting and livable small cities in America. Under his administration, the city made major strides in affordable housing, progressive taxation, environmental protection, child care, women’s rights, youth programs and the arts. In many states, it is still legal to fire someone for being gay and legal to deny someone housing for being transgender. That is unacceptable and must change ending discrimination in all forms. Sen. Sanders is currently a cosponsor of the Equality Act, which would expand the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and other anti-discrimination laws to include protections for sexual orientation and gender identity.
