My best experience at Children’s Rehab and Therapy Services is a little girl who comes in for physical therapy once a week. She is almost two years old. She was diagnosed with Torticollis/Shoulder Restriction. She was kept in the hospital for three months after her birth and was NG tubed for about six weeks and required a ventilator for eight hours. The doctors told her parents that she would probably never live a normal life and could probably never walk. The therapist reports that she has been crawling for about six months now and a few weeks before, they had worked on walking. The little girl could pull to a stand and at first, took a few steps holding the therapist’s hand. The therapist let her hand go and the little girl walked to her parents on the other side of the hallway. The therapist and the parents were amazed and everyone was cheering for her. The little girl had the biggest smile on her face. I was so thankful to be able to share that huge accomplishment with the parents and therapists.
Worst Experience: A four year old girl who was diagnosed with Spina Bifida comes in for physical therapy once a week. She is in a wheel chair because she has no use of her legs and because her back is curved in two different places. She can hardly sit out of her wheel chair for long periods of time because she gets tired from holding herself up. This is my worst experience because she’s unable to do much of anything. The only way for her to move is for her to scoot around because she is too heavy for anyone to pick her up. She is only seven years old and has had numerous of surgeries. She will probably never be able to walk. I couldn’t imagine being that age and not being able to walk or even sit up. We take so much for granted and we don’t even realize it.
New things I’ve learned in clinicals: * I’ve learned that physical therapy and occupational therapy have the same technique, only occupational therapy is teaching the children up
