Bethany Hamilton Research Papers
Through her story of faith, persistence, and confidence, Bethany Hamilton has illustrated to millions how to strive for the seemingly unachievable. At the mere age of thirteen, Hamilton experienced something life changing: having an arm bitten off by a shark while surfing. Surfing had always meant the world to Bethany, in fact, her career as a surfer was primarily initiated because of her parents (Hamilton 7). From the moment Hamilton reaches the board, an inexplicable connection sparks. Bethany said “I’ve tried to explain why I feel the way I do and it's impossible. Only surfers get it: the rush, the addiction, the way it stirs your heart, plays with your head, and tortures your body (Hamilton 119) .” Although at times there were downsides, being the youngest of three and the only girl had its benefits. As she was being rushed to the hospital, Hamilton was told to believe that God was there for her (Hamilton 79) and this had a large impact on her recovery. Through every step of the way, she had her friends to lean on. With all the suffering Hamilton had gone through, she still had two things going for her, her support from friends and her belief that God would not let a shark destroy her life's work.

In spite of her major, life-altering obstacle that occurred at a young age, Bethany Hamilton persevered and was able to live a successful life. With the support of her friends and family, she got back on the board, won countless competitions, and received numerous awards. With her resilience, optimism and extreme talent, Hamilton is unstoppable. Recently, she got married and is now the mother of a baby boy. Though she only had one arm, she was resolute to not let this hardship define her, but rather to attain any goal that lay
