exercises, medication information and many other topics of choice or concern (ALA, 2016; Better Breathers Club). In American Lung Association’s 2016 COPD Management tools article, another resource was found to be beneficial for Mr. P. The resource for Mr. P would involve developing a plan that directs patients to talk to their Doctor and discuss a plan to improve their well-being and have a plan in place. The COPD management plan can assist in different areas including planning medicines, when to call the health care provider and when to get emergency care. The resource of developing a plan and talking the Doctor in Mr. P’s community would be a very valuable resource for both the patient and the provider.
My thoughts on the American Lung Association (ALA) (2015) report are that the goals set are big and bold for the future but achievable. Reducing smoke rates, protection of secondhand smoke and eliminating death by tobacco use can all be achieved if we take necessary small steps to get there. These are necessary goals that our country needs to work towards for the sake of the people’s health and the health care costs that tobacco drives. It is sad to think that in 2014 there were not smoke free laws passed or any increase on tobacco taxes that could have helped move the country in a direction of achieving the goals. Laws, funding and leadership need to be addressed and in effect for tobacco to be controlled (ALA, 2015).
