Fv1 Task 4

Data collection for all three groups will start with the patients’ demographic information including, their name, DOB, sex, address, primary care provider, pulmonologist, and insurance payer, and the year which they were diagnosed with COPD. The SF-12 QOL questionnaire as well as 6 questions concerning hospital admissions over the past twelve months, and comorbid conditions would be administered to gain the patient’s understanding of their current feelings about their overall quality of life. An initial FEV1 and FVC would be collected if the patient did not have one competed as an outpatient within the last three months. A 6MWD would also be completed.
Lung function tests and QOL survey would be repeated at week six and again at six and twelve months’ post enrollment
The results would be cataloged and compiled with and a mean score for each group. An analysis of variance (ANOVA) would be performed to compare the data between the three groups. Additional analysis utilizing a two-way chi-square formula to determine statistical differences between the variables of the three groups would be required utilizing the appropriate software. Associations between variables would be calculated using contingency coefficient analysis. Minimum statistical power would be set at 0.05 for Type I errors and 0.20 for Type II errors. The data scientist would be responsible for completing the data analysis once collected and cataloged.
Budget and Timetable
The budget for this research proposal will be a total of $600,000 to appropriately complete a 2.5-year study. The first 6 months of the study would include working the nurses and pulmonologist to develop the patient education materials and exercise plans for patients in each of the 4 stages of COPD. The cost
