Procrastination is when someone puts off a task until it is time for the project to be due. Both passages (“Structured Procrastination” and “A Stitch in Time”) explain ways to solve procrastination. One may feel as if the two selections are different in the authors’ tone, while the same message is still getting through that procrastination is something that can be fixed. Both writers support the fact that procrastination is bad and can be easily fixed with a few steps. In the passage “Structured Procrastination ,” the author writes about fixing someone’s procrastination problem by deciding what they would rather do instead of what needs to be done. The author states that “they (procrastinators) must firmly tell themselves that they may not do anything except one of the three tasks for the next several hours.” This way, one may stop procrastinating and do the task that they had put off. The author writes, “Some people have simply gotten themselves into a bad habit of procrastinating out of laziness.” The writer deliberately gives the person an excuse. Sometimes though, one has to repeatedly tell someone what they are doing is wrong and they need to fix it. Many people have to “have their hand held” but when it is, they do not grasp on the concept of how to fix their problem. Sometimes a person needs to be told forcefully that they have a task that needs to be completed. The author also writes ways that one can easily fix their procrastination. One way is to “minimize distractions.” That means no television, phone, food, or other items that may cause one to become unfocused on the task at hand. The writer also includes that one should “create a clean, uncluttered workspace.” Then the author says that one needs to be called out in order to complete a task, these suggestions the author gives may help
